I was walking in to Kinnetic this morning, unenthusiastically. I had forgotten that Brian had important documents of mine in his office's safe. Also maybe I wanted to talk to him again. Anyway, as I was walking in I saw a very hot brunette standing at the reception desk. I heard him ask for Brian and jumped in before the secretary could speak.
"Brian is out today, unfortunately you and he will have to reschedule." He uttered a curse word under his breath and left. The secretary smiled at me and let me right through to Brian's office. I got there and looked through his glass doors and saw him talking to Ted. He didn't seem to notice my presence. Just to be nosy I put my ear to the door and listened. And boy am I glad I did, because this is what I heard.
"Brian you gotta open up, just let it all hang out." They both paused contemplating weather or not to pursue the blatantly obvious sex joke. They silently decided against it and Brian finally spoke.
"My mother is a frigid bitch. My father was an abusive drunk. They had a hateful marriage. Which is probably why I am unwilling or unable to form along term, committed relationship of my own. The fact that I drink like a fish , abuse drugs and have moral-less redefined promiscuity doesn't help….much. As a result I have lost the two people in my life that mean the most to me."
There was a moment of silence. With it I take the chance to process what Brian had just said. He had never been that open and honest before.
Now I know.
Now I know why he has had such an aversion to relationships. I mean I knew all about his parents, but I never thought that they influenced him this much. Because of those insensitive pricks, Brian, this wonderful loveable man can't have a normal relationship.
Finally after a prolonged silence , Ted speaks.
"There, don't you feel better?" He asks.
"No." Brian answers. "But I'm sure you do."
"I know I do." I say, stepping into the room. Immediately upon seeing me, Ted's face goes red and Brian's goes white as a ghost.
"Justin." He says, his voice barely a whisper. Afraid that if he speaks to loud his voice will betray him. Ted simply turns around and runs from the room.
"So, I heard what you said just now." I told him, hands shoved in to my back pockets. Inching closer to him by the second.
"You did huh?" He asks fiddling with papers on his desk.
"Did you mean it?" I ask.
"Which part?"
"That I am one of the people in your life that means the most to you." I say, now only separated from him by his desk. He scrunches up his nose, then looks me in the eye, contemplating his next move. And before I know it he grabs my head and pulls me in for a soul searing, crazy driving, incredible tongue filled Kinney signature kiss. When we finally pull apart I look him in the eyes and easily read what he is to apprehensive to ask.
"Yeah I'll move back in. And Brian, I love you to." Brian tears up and smiles at me.
"I'm sorry, I was a world class ass." I smile back.
"But you're my world class ass."
