Graveside Picnic

Disclaimer: Obviously i don't own it, or Kieren and Rick would have walked off into the sunset together.

According to Bill, Vicar Oddie had said that there would be a second rising. Kieren hadn't really heard any more than that- the anger and the grief causing everything to blur, if his heart had still been beating the blood would have been rushing in his ears (it felt like it was anyway).

Now Kieren didn't necessarily believe this (didn't want to listen to anything either of those men had to say) but maybe he wanted to. Lisa's parents had said that you had to have hope and everyone needed something to hold onto.

So he spent most of his time at Rick's graveside; day and night- holding a silent vigil. Despite the worry it caused his family, at least he wasn't giving up. Jem would come and sit with him sometimes, and Mrs. Macy, with her thermos of tea -not speaking- just a comforting presence.

He knew they all wondered why (never voiced their questions, didn't dare upset this precarious balance) but the answer was obvious really: If it did turn out to be true, if there was a second rising and Rick came back then Kieren wanted to be there for him. He couldn't bear to let him wake up alone again.

So he would wait- however long it took- he had an eternity after all.
