Why Fireworks Fade
Fireworks whistled like sirens as they launched into the dark, serene night. Brilliant hues illuminated the sky; the eyes that watched glittered in wonder. Those vibrant colours stretched across the night, giving the illusion that if one was to reach out, they could touch it with their fingertips.
The first time Tōshirō Hitsugaya had seen fireworks, he was just an infant, naïve to the world. He found that the memory was his earliest. Back then he was a happy, ordinary child, unaware of how cruel the world could be.
He, his O bāchan and Hinamori had watched the display together. The small, makeshift family sat on the porch. Both young children huddled against the woman that doted on them, nestled into her side. The prodigy supposed that must have been one of the reasons he found the displays so nostalgic.
Hitsugaya closed his eyes as the glitter that decorated the sky faded into nothingness. That moment he decided something, the reason that such brightness had to fade was simple. All things special did, like Hinamori.
His precious childhood friend was like a firework, bright, light and warm. She admired those that were superior to her, and trusted with ease. Those qualities in her were what made her shine to him. However, they were taken and cruelly twisted, manipulated to fit into some sick plan. And since that day, she had faded. Too afraid that if she was to shine again, she would get hurt.
There was Matsumoto too, although lazy, she was loving and loyal, never failing to make the room brighter. But just like Momo, she had been hurt. The man she loved so much taken away from her. The strawberry blonde managed to hide it better, but unbeknownst to her, he had seen her. When she gazed longingly out of the office window, her eyes sad and lost in her thoughts.
Beryl orbs fluttered open, his nose nuzzling into the soft fabric of his scarf. Fireworks faded just like those he loved and cared for did. Because if they didn't they would be snatched up and taken for granted. And although he didn't think about it, something had faded in him too…
Until next time! Hope to hear from you ^^
