It was early hours in the morning before the sun had risen when Bash rode back to the courtyard. He had been out all day pursuing the King's justice, then found himself caught in a snow storm. Now he wanted nothing more than to fall into bed. Dismounting and shaking the snow from his hair, he strode wearily to his chambers. He felt guilty, having promised that morning to Kenna that he would be home by sun down, but the sudden snow storm had delayed his travels. He would pay for it in the morning he was sure. Bash entered their chambers shutting the door behind him as silently as he could not wanting to wake his wife. Taking of his damp cloak he realized how cold their chambers were with the wind still howling at the windows and the fire in the hearth long burnt out. Gently laying his sword on the table, he was surprised to see the moonlit outline of Kenna in her dressing gown, asleep in a chair and hunched over papers with a candle melted to a stub. She had waited for him. He smiled sadly at the realization of it.

He knelt next to her chair and shook her shoulder gently. "Kenna, Kenna." She blinked her eyes blearily, searching for his. "Bash," she sighed. "The storm…I-I was worried."

"I know. I'm sorry." He said cupping her cheek lovingly.

"Your hands are freezing." She noted, pressing her hand on top of his, while her eyes drifting shut. "So are yours." He said, taking both of hands in his and lifting her to standing position. "Let's get you warmed up and in bed." He picked her up and carried her to bed, tugging the blankets tightly around her. He quickly lit the fire, changed into his own bed clothes and crawled in beside her. She snuggled into his chest. "I'm glad you're home, Bash." She mumbled into his shirt. "I love you." she slipped out with a yawn.

He pulled her closer and kissed the top of her head. "I love you too." He fell asleep to the Kenna's gentle breathing just as dawn crept over the horizon.
