Giving in is the worst thing there is.

Chapter 1: No, That's my best friend

Rolling over Nathan tried to force his body and mind to go back to sleep, he could get in a few extra minutes before his alarm clock would sound through out the room and leave no chance of sleep. Sighing as his body didn't listen he sat up and looked over next to him, there lied the most desired girl in tree hill. Rubbing his eyes he tried remembering exactly what had happened last night.

Nathan sat in his bed wearing nothing but boxers as he flipped through the different sports channels on his TV, trying to find something that would keep his attention. His parents were long asleep after the exhausting discussion they'd had just a few hours prior, their talks were enough to wear out an entire debate team in under 20 minutes.

Just as he was about to switch off the TV he noticed his door start to creep opened, sitting up he had just a slight look of concern on his face. Sitting up straight Nathan watched his best friend, Brooke Davis, tiptoe into his room and shut the door behind her. Her eyes were blood shot and her normally perfect long brown hair was in a tangled mess.

It was the 5th time this week he'd watched her come into his room looking like she was about to break out into tears. "Can I stay with you tonight?" she said to him, as he watched her try to fight back the tears that seemed determined to show themselves tonight. Without any questions accusations, Nathan nodded toward the right side of the bed and settled back in.

He didn't have to ask what was wrong or why she needed to stay the night over, he already knew, he'd known for over 8 years now what happened the nights she had to escape her house and seek refuge in his bed. Their families were far from perfect as they seemed but they would only reveal it to each other and no one else.

Staring down at her as he sat on the edge of the bed next to her, Nathan was tempted to just let her sleep the rest of the day away. It was the first time he'd seen her sleeping so peaceful in forever. Normally she was tossing and turning as she had the same re occurring night mare.

Seeing her rest peaceful for once was nice but he knew that if they expected to make it to school on time, he'd have to do it now. Reaching over he placed his hand on her should her and nudged her lightly before she started to stir.

"Wake up B. Davis if you want to make it to school in time. We both know how important academics is to you." He barely got it out before letting a loud roar of laughter escape his mouth.

Nathan Scott had been friend with Brooke Davis since before he had any real memories. Their families went back long before Nathan and Brooke came into existence. They never had any choice on weather they would be friends, it was in their blood to be apart of each others lives.

Shutting the door to his locker, Nathan turned around just into time to watch the group of cheerleaders make their way over in his direction. A cocky grin spread across his lips as he watched them all smirk at him.

Nathan Scott was the Captain of the Basketball team and had single handedly lead the Tree Hill Ravens to the state Championships twice in a row. This year was going to be no different; his father had a plan for him since her realized Nathan shared the same talents in basketball as he did.

Tree Hill High school revolved around the basketball team, which gave Nathan a free pass to walk through school with no worries. The teachers caved in whenever the principled reminded them of just how important Nathan Scott was to the Ravens.

There was nothing or no one that Nathan didn't control in this school, well everyone except Brooke Davis. She was the exception to every rule when it came down to it.

Nathan would treat any girl like shit, except Brooke.

Nathan would order around everyone, except Brooke.

Nathan never showed anyone his vulnerable side, except Brooke.

He was the typical bad ass that went through girls quicker than people did napkins at an all you can eat hot wings buffet. There was never a girl he respected or gave attention to other than Brooke.

That could have mostly been because she was the only one who dared to challenge him the way she had since they were young. The first time was still fresh in his memory, they were 10:

"Nathan!! Give it back, That's my favorite doll!" Brooke shouted at the top her lugs as Nathan took the porcelain doll and ran out the back door and into the yard. Brooke raced after him with the anger boiling over the surface, clear as could be.

"What are you going to do if I don't give it back? And since when do you play with dolls?" Nathan's tone was nasty and degrading toward Brooke, it was a habit he'd picked up from his father and the way Dan spoke to his wife.

Brooke had always been like one of the boys growing up, she'd never done anything girly or played with girly up til' that doll. It was as if for the first time since birth Nathan had noticed she was a girl,

"You'll be sorry Nathan Scott." Brooke said in a stern voice before holding out her hand and giving him and nasty looked to emphasize she was serious.

With a careless shrug he dropped it to the ground as the glass head shattered and all that was left was the stuffed body. Nathan would never force the look on Brooke's
face when she finally managed to bring her eyes back to his face, they burned through him as though she had hated him with her entire being.

"I HATE YOU!!" she said with such force that he took a step backwards. "I'LL NEVER FORGIVE YOU NATHAN SCOTT.. NEVER! GET AWAY FROM ME! GO AWAY AND NEVER, EVER TALK TO ME AGAIN."

That memory still bugged Nathan, seven years later and he still felt as thought she had just yelled at him. It was the first time Nathan truly felt the loose of a loved one; Brooke refused to speak to him. Even at family gatherings she ignored him like he was never born, refusing as much to speak his name.

Nathan had never worked so hard in his life to get someone to forgive him and even though it may seem like all is forgiven these days, he still wonders if she really would ever forgive him. It took an entire summer, over 50 dolls, hundreds of apologizes and a ring for her to speak to him.

After that it they were closer than ever, things they never knew about each other came to light. They both learned that they had more in common than they knew and that they would never be willing to loose each other.

Nathan sat at the back of the class, scratching his scalp as he thought of the million things he could do that would be more important than History. Like normal he had a groupie taking the notes for him, all for some fake attention he gave her for less than two seconds.

Sinking down in his desk he tried to look interested in what the teacher was blabbing on and on about but his cell phone vibrating saved him from that. Reaching into his pocket he checks the screen as he read Brookes name.

She was in calculus and was the one period he could always count on to get a text from her.

What do you say we just run away to a far away island and never look back? Love B.

Not many people understood their conversations; since they started middle school people had been trying to call them a couple but they always had the same answer. "No that's my best friend."
