Dear readers,
Or whoever might have stumbled over my humble scribblings...
Since I got really overexcited and maybe a tad nervous about uploading the first chapter of the very first fanfiction I've ever written, I might have forgotten to leave an author's note, with standard disclaimer and a halfway decent summary. The tiny ones on aren't really my cup of tea, however, if you aren't interest in knowing some of the pairings in advance or any plot related spoilers it might be best for you to skip straight to the next chapter. I just thought it may be better to get some things out in the open, so there are no unpleasant surprises later on.
As I've already mentioned above, this is my first attempt at fanfiction, so I am not entirely sure about my future updating schedule. 50 000 words are already written, which equals about four large chapters on my iPad, that I intend to split in half for the uploads. However, some parts need a bit of tweaking, so from now on I'll probably try to add a chapter every two weeks, which should give me enough time to correct most of the spelling mistakes etc. Unfortunately I'm not a native speaker, so please bear with me, even if my grammar might be horrendous. Especially comma's... Really not my forte...
Finally the promised fact sheet:
There will be spoilers...
... like a whole lot of them!
You have been warned...
Summary:
Three years have passed since the defeat of the Order of the Phoenix in the Battle of Hogwarts and the Dark Lord reigns supreme. When all hope seems lost Luna Lovegood employs ancient magic in order to catapult Draco Malfoy, Hermione Granger, Blaise Zabini and herself in their eleven year old bodies. Navigating a world that they had believed lost, our heroes must solve the mysteries surrounding an ancient set of wands, a newly revealed prophecy and uncover the powers dormant in their blood. Oh and by the way... while they are at it... prevent the second wizarding war from happening all over again.
Major pairings: Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger
Luna Lovegood and Harry Potter
Blaise Zabini and Tom M. Riddle
Side pairings: Severus Snape and Narcissa Malfoy
Ginny Weasley, Pansy Parkinson and Daphne Greengrass
Quite a few are yet to be determined... suggestions are always appreciated
None of them will be in established relationship from the very beginning. Hell, some of them might need years until they get together, however Dramione is definitely going to be an integral part of the story, relatively early on. I like the whole will they/won't they circus as much as the next guy/girl, but, I am not the biggest fan of draaaaagging the whole thing out until everyone gets more and more frustrated, because the main ship is acting either painfully oblivious or wilfully obtuse. Besides, I need some fluff moments too, not just the itty gritty war, pain and death routine. They get a new chance at life after all...
Some of the story elements with my reasoning for the changes from canon:
Time Travel: they are all eleven again... yeay... I guess... Jokes aside I really like that trope, and it's a hell of a lot fun to write! I have a sneaking suspicion that the time travellers might come off as overpowered, especially in the beginning of the story. However they also have their fair share of problems and in most cases paid a heavy price for the strength they wield now... after all they've lived through three years of Voldemort's regime and some of their scars are simply more visible than others. Besides they will need all their combined strength to deal with the challenges I intend to throw their way.
Founder Era/Merlin and Morgana le Fey/Greek Myths/Magical creatures/Wand lore/Pureblood culture/Malfoy and Black family traditions/International Wizarding relations/Inter House Unity/Alchemy/Wiccan culture/Prohecies/Runes/Arithmancy/ Wizarding Politics/ Familiars: There is a true treasure of topics that are justwaiting to be explored in the context of the Harry Potter universe, which is quite fortuitous since I find most of those subjects fascinating. Add to that, that I am definitely in need of some adventures for our time travelling quartet, because some of their struggles from the original time line will be much easier dealt with, given they now have the gift of hindsight and voila...
Good Slytherins: Don't fret there will still be more than enough stuck up pureblood supremacists to hate as much as your heart desires, however I'll try to achieve a more nuanced portrait of Slytherin house, with some good, some ambiguous and some bad members. Things are rarely as black and white as Harry perceives them to be in the books. Not to forget that the students of Slytherin house were all raised in the wake of a lost civil war, where the other houses were intent on hating them for the sins of their parents... Hatred just perpetuated more hatred, forming the perfect foundation for Voldemort's second ascend.
Slytherin Harry Potter: I've thought a good while about the possible outcome of the sorting, if Draco hadn't been such an ass at Madam Malkins' and on the Hogwarts express and yeah, seemed like the most probable result to me... Harry is bound to be nothing if not loyal to the very first friend he's ever made and this time Draco is going to earn the title before Ron, which would make Harry less inclined to demand not to be put in Slytherin.
Abusive Dursleys: Worse than in canon... but not entirely out of character. They locked a child into the closet beneath their stairs and didn't keep Dudley from bullying Harry. Not really the nicest people from the get go...
Abusive Lucius Malfoy: Which isn't the biggest leap of faith to begin with, but I might have turned it up a notch from what I believe to be a logical interpretation of canon situations.
Dumbledore bashing: There are way too many reasons, why I think Dumbledore deserves more scrutiny, than he gets in the books. Like a ton of reasons... I am not the biggest fan of the 'for the greater good' mentality to begin with, and handing a child to people who hate the very sight of it, just because of some blood magic and the fact that he didn't want the fame to get to Harry's head is rather stupid for someone who claims to be close to omniscient... Why couldn't Harry stay at Grimmauld place for example? At least from fifth year onward, that must have been at least as feasible as letting him wallow in his self loathing because of Cedric's death, with only restricted contact to his friends who might have provided him with much needed comfort...
Ron bashing: Like... hell yeah. Sorry, I realise that many people adore Ron in canon and even I have to admit he is a somewhat decent bloke. Not on par with a Hermione Granger, not by a very long shot, but nice enough... However, he is without doubt the least reliable member of the golden trio and I really, really wanted to pull a Peter Pettigrew with one of them, so Ronald Bilius Weasley got the short straw on that one.
Ginny bashing: like just a teensy tinsy bit in the original timeline
Doesn't mean I hate the Weasley's in general, I just don't see the passion between Harry and Ginny. Not to mention that she looks just like his mother, which just gives me the creeps... Even if it might be psychologically sound reasoning, that Harry would go for someone like that.
Hufflepuff Blaise Zabini: for... uh... reasons, it's an inter house unity project I'm working on... No, seriously, I believe Hufflepuff and Raveclaw are kinda underrepresented in the books, so I thought it might be nice to explore their potential a bit. Like house politics and that kind of stuff...
Seventh year AU: My background story, will mostly adhere to canon up until sixth year and the broad brushes of seventh year, however the outcome of the Battle of Hogwarts is significantly altered to allow for a changed direction of the ensuing war/post war era.
I have in no way, shape or form any rights to the story of the Harry Potter books. They belong to the one and only J.K. Rowling.
Feedback is always appreciated. Nonetheless I would like to think that everyone here is able to adhere to the rules of basic human decency, so if there's anything you want to tell me, then please refrain from name calling or something equally obnoxious. I've seen it way too many times before and it does nothing but invalidate the point you are trying to make.
Have fun reading and I hope you enjoy yourself.
Lena
