Ryuk sat there. Just staring at the Shinigami Realm. Nothing more then a dead realm.
Many shinigamis asked Ryuk about what happened down at the human realm. Having nothing else to do, he would tell them the story.
Back then he believed humans were so interesting. He still did believe that they are.
But shinigamis, they're not. They simply have no purpose anymore.
They only kill people because they are too afraid to die. But what do they have to lose? Nothing really. Would they turn into nothing and be completely erased? Would they rot in some sort of nowhere? This IS a nowhere. A nowhere is the Shinigami Realm. A place of quiet and no peace, but boredom.
Ryuk stared at the shinigamis who were gambling. Boring.
Ryuk glanced at the misty gray atmosphere around them. Boring.
Ryuk looked at the lazy shinigamis who were sleeping. Really boring.
It reminded Ryuk that he needed to end a boring human life to continue his, or else he would find out what would really happen when he died.
But then he realised that he was sending people to the after life, which made him think more. What if the after life was just like nowhere? What if it was just like the Shinigami Realm? It was like he was sending them to a boring hell. He didn't want to do that. He had to live that boring hell every day. It was NOT fun.
Ryuk sighed as another shinigami came into his little cave above the Shinigami Realm.
He asked for him to tell his story, and give him an apple from the Shinigami Realm.
And so like Ryuk always did, he told the shinigami the story.
It brought back so many memories. How much fun he had with the humans. He missed those days.
The shinigami stood silent for a few seconds after Ryuk finished the story.
"I'm surprised you asked," Ryuk started, "Light Yagami..."
"I'm glad to know you recognized me." The shinigami, or Light said.
"Don't you miss those good old days?" Ryuk asked.
"NO, RYUK! I-I...I lost..." Light made fists with his shinigami hands.
"So? You were so close to winning. And you can't act like you didn't have fun when it was happening!" Ryuk grinned.
"It doesn't matter how close I was, Ryuk. I still lost." Light looked down but then looked up again. "But that doesn't matter!"
"Huh?" Ryuk scratched his head.
"I plan to take over the Shinigami Realm, not just take over, but change it. I will rule over this rotten place!" Light declared. "So what do you say, Ryuk? Would you like to join me and take over this hell?"
"Hell yeah!" Ryuk stood up and then froze.
"Ryuk?" Light asked.
"Li-Light..." Ryuk said before turning into dust. He didn't write another name in the death note in time.
