Long time no see! This will just be a series of unrelated short drabbles that I need to get out of my head. Hope you enjoy anyway!
"It's not funny!" she slaps his thigh because her head is buried into the pillow and she's curled into a ball and she can't reach anything else.
"Castle stop laughing!" she half-wines, before turning over and curling in on herself away from him.
He's still giggling but as he watches her turn away from him he sobers up a bit.
"I'm sorry Kate," he says, trying to keep the smile out of his tone. "C'mere." He places a hand on her hip and tries to pull her back to him, but she doesn't budge.
"Kaaaate." He lays down and pulls her body back into the curve of his. Nuzzling his nose into the hair that cascades over the base of her neck, he finds skin and begins to place soft kisses there.
"It's not funny," he repeats back to her, hoping she'll explain.
"No, it's not," comes her quiet answer back.
"You're just so cute when you're being dramatic, you know that?"
"Wasn't being dramatic."
"Oh yeah? I've never seen a woman so mad about starting."
She pauses, and he can hear her take a slow breath. "47 hours Castle."
His eyebrows rise and his smile is gone now. "What?"
"47 hours late. I don't even remember the last time I was 2 hours late."
"Wait- you were- you thought- oh."
"Stupid. Impossible." And it's only now that he recognizes the extra shine in her eyes, the way she keeps blinking and taking deeper breaths.
"It's not stupid," he whispers out against her neck, resuming his kisses.
"Castle you know the numbers. Impossible and stupid are the right words."
"The doctor said-"
"The doctor said not to hope."
"She also said we shouldn't give up," he tosses back.
"Those are contradictory statements." Her tone is hushed and with those last words she curls in on herself even more, pulling his arm around to her stomach.
He doesn't answer. She's probably right.
Together they lay in silence.
