Disclaimer: Why yes, I do own Bones. Unfortunately, I only own seasons 1-3 on DVD, not the rights to the show.

WARNING: Contains mild spoilers.

A/N: Pure speculation for Season Six, using the projected title for 6x01. If there are any inaccuracies in this fic regarding mastodons vs. elephants, let's chalk it up to the fact that Angela's not an expert on either. (Because I'm certainly not. And while I did some research, several of the sources I looked at contradicted each other.)

Booth has a girlfriend.

Huh. That's one Angela didn't see coming. Then again, she really should have. A guy – even one as crazy in love as Booth is with Bren – can only wait for so long, after all. And Hannah seems nice enough.

She doesn't like her, but God knows Booth deserves some happiness. And maybe this will provide that push that Bren needs.

Angela snorts at her own hopeful thoughts.

Jealousy hasn't done the job in the past, so why on earth would it start working now?

Still, there's no doubting that Brennan is jealous. She's not sure that Brennan's aware of her jealousy, mind, but that doesn't change the fact that she's practically green with it.

And in the meantime, Booth and Brennan's feelings for one another remain the proverbial elephant in the room. Everyone (except Hannah and maybe Brennan) knows that the elephant's there, but there's nothing that they can do. It's Booth and Brennan's elephant, so it's up to them to take care of it.

Scratch that; it's not an elephant these days, it's a damn mastodon. It may be shorter than an elephant, but it's a lot heavier and it's got much nastier tusks and teeth.

It's infuriating, but Angela's learned that she can't make her friends face reality until they're ready. She can talk until she's blue in the face or even show them pictures of the figurative mastodon, but that won't make them accept its existence. Ultimately, all she can do is try to keep the Jeffersonian as clean of mastodon droppings as possible.

And she'd always thought Cam was the one with 'Zookeeper' in her job description.

One of these days, though, Angela knows that the mastodon is going to break out of its cage and go on a rampage. What goes up must come down, what's repressed must come out.

She just hopes that no one gets hurt too badly when that day finally arrives.
