The Machine had been ignoring numbers for awhile, giving her team time to settle in. John seemed to like his job as a detective good enough. Harold was, well Harold when it came to his job as a professor. Sameen absolutely hated her job. The Machine couldn't quite find a job that fit Shaw, and not to mention her cover was last minute, but the ex-assassin was dealing with it.

The Machine felt torn, ignore numbers and let innocent people die or send numbers and let her team risk exposure, which ultimately meant death. She pulled up information on her latest number and (If she could have) sighed. He was a good man overall, he just got mixed up with some bad people. The machine weighed the consequences of sending the number.

She didn't want this man to die or kill someone else, but she was worried for the safety of her people. They trusted her, believed in her, if she gave them a number they would most likely help the person. But what if they got hurt, or exposed?

Oh, she didn't even know anymore. With Samaritan online it was hard. He knew she was there and likewise. They were two gods fighting over the same territory and it wasn't big enough for the both of them. Now don't get me wrong, The Machine would share, but Samaritan was built by evil people, ran by evil people, he was evil.

How she missed the days when she was the only A.I. Things were simpler, things were easier, she didn't have to worry about trying hide and fight off another A.I., but things never stayed easy did they? She should know that by now, but she longs to go back to the old days, before Samaritan, before Decima, back when it was just her and her team. Sure there were the occupational hazards, but that was expected.

The Machine searched more about this new number and found something interesting; the number had a secure network. She went digging more and more, one thing leading to another until she had seen enough to realize something. They had resources, they had connections. They could make this work.

If The Machine had lungs, she would have taken a deep breath. She sent the number to John. They would find a way to make this work. They always did.
