Piper dragged the red crayon across the page in the start of an apple. She was being dragged on one of her fathers business trips again. They were always so bo-oring. Tristan would always give her some crayons and paper and make her draw to entertain herself. Piper hated drawing. She had no skill. She would rather run around and play with other kids. Her daddy never let her play with other kids though, she was always surrounded by adults.

This time she was in a room alone. She pouted as one of her crayons broke. This always seemed to happen to her. Loneliness as far as the eye could see and broken crayons to top it off. Piper reached for the other part of the broken crayon and started to breath on it in an attempt to melt it and attach it to the other. Successful, she smiled and was just about to begin drawing with it when it fell apart again. Piper was just about to try again when the door suddenly flung open. A woman in a business dress waltzed in with another little girl and sat her down across from Piper with a box of crayons and a piece of paper.

"I don't even like crayons. I prefer pencils." The girl said, annoyed.
Piper looked at her in confusion. "Who are you?"

"Annabeth. Call me Anna or Beth and consider all of your crayons broken." The girl spoke with an air of matureness too strong for her age.

"Okay. I'm Piper." The 6 year old smiled and held her hand out like she'd seen her daddy do.

The girl shook her hand and smiled a little half-smile. She had pretty, wavy blonde hair and shocking grey eyes.

"Daddy doesn't usually let me hang out with other kids." Piper said to start a topic.

"Me neither. I think I'm gonna leave him soon." Annabeth stated.

"Really? But won't you miss your home?" Piper asked, wide eyed.

"No. No one loves me there." The blonde replied sadly.

"Well then you can come stay with me." Piper stated, determined. "I'll love you."

Annabeth smiled. "Okay! But what if your daddy finds me?"

"Um, we'll just hide you in my closet. It's big enough." The brunette replied.

"Okay. Thank you! You're my best friend!" Annabeth got up and tackled Piper into a hug. Piper hugged back, a big smile on her face.

Three hours later, both Annabeth and Piper were on their way home. Their plans had been foiled. But neither girl would forget the other.
