—
She grabbed her coffee and saw a man looking at her before turning his head at being caught by her.
She walks down the street, headphones in and sunglasses on. He's walking on the other side of the street, lighting a cigarette. He spots her and quickly turns down another street.
—
He's at a shoot his stupid friend had convinced him to do. She walks in, holding a cup a of coffee and hands it to one of the producers. Their eyes meet. They both smile.
—
She pulls him along down the street, her small hand cradled in his larger one. She smiles and feels his fingers tighten against her own.
—
"Dumb college bitch!"
"Screw you, you don't get it!"
They fight until he brings her a cappuccino and she kisses him on the cheek.
—
She lights a candle and he watches her from where he sits on her bed. She looks over her shoulder and drops her robe. He takes one last drag of the cigarette he's using to calm his nerves and approaches her.
—
They sit together at a table. She looks angry and doesn't talk to him and he huffs and knows he's done something wrong.
He folds his hands in front of himself and sighs heavily.
He sees her hand on the table and touches it with his own. They fight but they always make up. He wonders if one day they won't.
—
She's standing in the kitchen, wearing his shirt and nothing else, making them coffee.
He likes to watch her.
—
He listens to the demo she made with a smile on his lips.
—
They Skype while she's on the road. He smiles as her voice radiates through the phone. Her face shows her tiredness but still she looks beautiful.
He tells her that every day.
—
"Daryl, stop taking my picture."
"Can't – you're too fuckin' cute."
They kiss and fuck like teenagers and he forgets he's older than her. He's rough and hard and doesn't give a fuck.
—
"What is your problem?"
"You."
He takes a heavy swig from the bottle, a drag from his cigarette and kisses her so hard she forgets that she was mad at him. Until she doesn't and kicks him out.
—
He watches her from the pew. She looks beautiful, standing beside her sister. Makes him jealous – makes him sad. He misses her and he fucked up.
—
"I've missed you."
He takes her arm with his hand and pulls her close. Whispers in her ear.
"Missed you to, darlin'."
—
He stands in the park, contemplating his decision.
They walk down the pier together. He's got his arm wrapped around her as its chilly outside and she only wore a cardigan.
—
He is shocked when she tells him. Shows him the paperwork and tries to hold her tears in.
He tells her he's hurt she didn't tell him sooner. They could have had more time.
"Hurt is kinda part of the package."
—
She gets sick quicker than he thought. He makes his decision and buys the ring. She says yes.
—
They marry on a Sunday, after church with her daddy walking her down the aisle and its the slowest she's ever moved. She blames the drugs.
After what feels like eternity, she stands before him, bald and beautiful in a vision of white, exchanging vows with the man she loves.
—
It happens one morning. Early, before the sun comes up, he wakes up with a fright and moves to find her. She's cold and he knows that she's gone. He doesn't cry though, he doesn't think she would accept his tears.
—
The best thing is to move on. Its what he tells himself for the rest of his life. He doesn't though and listens to her singing voice on a CD each and every day, even up until his last.
