Link was fighting Majora's mask with the fierce deity's mask, and Link was winning only because of the fierce Deity's mask and his determination to save the people of Termina. Link was nearing the final blow when Majora's mask in its final form realised it couldn't win and the taint in the mask of Majora's would be removed forever. In its last breaths it detonated, taking Link's original and making it so his original body would last a short time before it became the deity's body from him and leaving the soul of the deity's mask and body that would eventually become his permanent body. And the abilities and transformations of the other transformational masks merged with his soul. Link was then tossed to Hyrules Death Mountain having saved the people of Termina. Link, wounded and badly injured, hiked his way down Death Mountain and into the village of the old Sheakah now replaced by Hyalines. Link stumbled upon Impa's home in the shadow temple...Elsewhere in the shadow temple Impa heard someone walking heavily up to the bottom of the graveyard and sensed a familiar presence. She went to see who it was and stumbled upon the battle damaged body of Link and noticed something different about his soul. She helped Link up and got him inside the shadow temple...
