Author's Note: I wrote this in a pretty short amount of time, so it's short. Yeah. And I just had to get an Umineko fic up since there's so little of them, and I've only seen one with Ange!

Disclaimer: I don't own anything.

She's watching him. Battler, she means.

His brows are furrowed, deep in thought. He's also probably concentrating on blocking out that stupid witch's neverending, vexatious cackling. He's having a bit of trouble with Beato's (how she hates that they're on a first name basis, existing surnames or not) previous move, and, while Gretel should be advising him, she can't help but allow her mind to wander off, refusing to let go of her inner suffering.

It had hurt her so much to see him so happy in the last game. Laughing, smiling, making a joke out of the whole ordeal, about to sell his soul to that witch. He believed it all! He believed every ounce of that trick! He wanted to stay there, in that so-called place of eternal happiness! So did Mom, Dad, and everyone else! What about her? He was going to leave her; he didn't seem to care about her at all! So she reproached him, reminding him that he had a game to finish, that he had family outside this place, that he had to win!

It hurt even worse to have to hide her true identity from him. Gretel. She told him to call her Gretel. 10,000 knives plunged themselves into her heart every time that name left his mouth. She didn't want to be Gretel! She wanted to be Ange Ushiromiya, Battler Ushiromiya's little sister! Not Gretel, Gretel, Gretel, Gretel, Gretel, Gretel! Alas, Bernkastel's rule was absolute. However, immense happiness flooded her when he would say that she, Ange, was the reason he wanted- no, would win. Merely thinking about it made her ecstatic, even if the Ange he was going to come home to wouldn't exactly be her. For a little while, just a little while.....she wouldn't care about the witches, or the game, or Gretel, just.....

Battler was her beloved Onii-chan, and she was his sister, his raison d'etre.
