Amy Cahill was desperate to get away from the party. It was New Year's Eve and she was at the Cahill Family Reunion at the Kabra mansion. She just wanted to get away from all of the noise and chaos. She walked out of the ballroom and onto the balcony only to find that she wasn't the only one there. In front of her stood Ian Kabra. He wore a black suit and tie. He turned around. When he saw her, he smiled.
"Hello, Amy. You look beautiful in your dress." he said.
"Thanks," Amy said, smiling.
She was wearing a red dress with sparkles criss-crossing on the front.
"What are you doing out here?" Amy asked, standing next to him.
Ian looked up at the stars. "Just thinking."
"About?" she said.
Ian looked at her. "Do you ever think about love, Amy?"
Amy was taken aback by the question. Was Ian Kabra really asking her this?
"Sometimes," she admitted. "Sometimes, I wonder how love feels. Do you?"
Ian shrugged. "Not really. I have no time to think about those things. Who needs love, really?"
Amy gaped at him. "Everyone needs love! Where would anyone be without it?"
Ian gave her a dry smile. "I love no one and look where I am. I'm perfectly happy without it."
Amy shook her head. "You need love, Ian. Everyone does."
Ian's face darkened. "Love is worthless. It makes you think right is wrong and wrong is right. I never want to fall in love."
"You can't avoid love, Ian." said Amy.
"I can try." he said.
"So, you never want to fall in love with anyone?" Amy said.
Ian looked at the sky. "Love is dangerous, Amy. It can make you feel like nothing else in the world matters more than that person you love. Or it can feel like your heart has been ripped up into millions of pieces and you'll never love anyone again. Like it's the end of the world. Do you really want to experience love, only to know that your heart could be shattered?"
Amy looked at him sadly. "I already know how that feels."
Ian's eyes widened and he looked at Amy. "Did I really hurt you that much?" he said softly.
Amy's eyes were pained. "You really did. Just like you said, I felt like my heart was ripped up into millions of tiny pieces. I felt like I couldn't trust anyone ever again. But I moved on. You always move on, Ian."
Ian looked away. "Why would you want to love, only to know that your heart could be broken?"
"Because love makes your heart soar. It makes you feel like anything is possible. And even if you try to avoid it, you can't. It always sucks you back in." Amy said. "When you're in love, it makes you feel like the happiest person in the world. Don't you want to feel that, Ian?"
Ian was silent for a moment, but then said, "Have you felt that before, Amy?"
Amy looked at him. "Perhaps I have."
She then left Ian to his thoughts.

Ian walked into the ballroom. He scanned the room, looking for Amy. He finally saw her next to the refreshment table. He walked towards her. She looked at him when he approached her. She raised an eyebrow at him.
"Yes?" she said.
Ian held out his hand to her. "Would you like to dance, Amy?"
Amy blinked, obviously not expecting that. "Uh... sure?"
He smiled and Amy took his hand. They walked onto the dance floor.
"I've been thinking about what you said." said Ian.
"And?" Amy said.
"And... I think I'm going to give love a chance." he said.
She smiled. "I was hoping you would."
Ian twirled her around.
"You're going to find that one girl for you someday, Ian." Amy said.
Ian smiled. "I think I already have."
