The Immortals
The thud of heavy boots echoed throughout the plain, the squelching of blood and the cracking of bones accompanied the stomping as several bloodstained figures drudged through the mounds of corpses, Their white armour barely visible behind the blood.
From one of the mounds a figure throw itself at the approaching squad.
Barely had it gone a step when it was turned into chunks of scorching flesh from a barrage of plasma bolts.
From the squad a cracking of static herald one about to speak
"How weak the inhabitants of this plant are, my soul hungers for more worthy foes"
The figure in the lead stopped and turned
"We are not here for fun Arconis we are here to show these mortals their error in defining are demands"
"If they thought that their soldiers could protect them they were fools" Arconis chuckled
From ahead the grinding of gears sounded amidst crushing of bones and squelching of flesh.
The figure in the lead held up his hand then pointed the squad dashed behind the mounds of bodies, using them for cover.
From around the corner a blood drenched vehicle made its way its markings unidentifiable under the blood.
Black scorch marks of burnt metal and blood dotted the vehicle. Then the gears between the vehicles tracks ground to a halt clogged up by blood and body parts
Slowly using the mounds for cover the squad surrounded the halted vehicle.
With a clatter a hatch on top of the vehicle swung open and a guardsmen poked his head out. Taking a quick glance around he ducked back inside the vehicle emerging moments later followed by several others. They clambered down the side of the vehicle and opened a side hatch.
From within the hatch a gust smoke billowed out as sparks flew to the ground.
Quickly the guardsmen began tinkering with the components within the hatch.
It was at that time when the leader gave the order to attack
By the time the guardsmen realised they were not alone Arconis's war axe had cleaved through two of their skulls and dented the metal passed them.
The guardsmen groped for their pistols in an attempt to defend themselves but before they could they were chopped to pieces their blood coating the vehicle with a glistening dark red.
Clattering arose from within the vehicle shortly followed by the burst of laser rifles from gunports along the side.
The lasers streaked through empty air, their intended targets to out of their arc of fire. Metal boots pounded the hull as Arconis followed by his breathren stormed the vehicle. From the open top hatch laser fire burstforth blasting through the eyepiece of one the warriors, with blood dripping through the shattered eyepiece the warrior jumped down the open hatch recklessly followed by the sounds of crunching bones and screams of pain. The sounds of more laser fire emitted from the hatch before dying out to silence. Metal grinded as the rear hatch swung down and the blood soaked warrior emerged his axe in one hand and a severed head in the other. Thrusting his axe in the air he let lose a war cry of demonic origin which was echoed by his fellow brethren.
Arconis's laughter crackled through his intercom, his brother had killed his first governor on the fields of battle and had earned his place among their chapter's elites.
