John and Sherlock were at Sherlock's house, spending some time outside in the garden. Sherlock's parents were often away at work and Mycroft was at university so Sherlock was home alone most of the time. Sherlock and John had different hobbies. If John saw an injured bird, he would try his best to help it and give it the things it needed, whereas Sherlock would want to investigate the wounds and how it got injured. Both boys were very intelligent for the age 13, which made them quite unpopular. They had each other.
"Sherlock, what are we going to do this afternoon?" John, sitting on the grass, looked up at Sherlock who was in a tree. "Oh I don't know, John. Why don't you come up here with me? I can see your house from up here." Sherlock knew that John was scared of heights. "No, Sherlock. What if I fall and kill myself?" John frowned. "I'd save you, John." Sherlock smiled slightly.
John wasn't sure about his sexuality; he had never had a girlfriend or a boyfriend before. Sherlock was the closest thing he had. John loved being around Sherlock and having fun with him, he was just never so sure that Sherlock felt the same.
Sherlock most definitely felt the same. He loved John. John was the only person to give him a chance, the only person who didn't insult him and walk away when they first met. Sherlock only had one friend and that was John. "My John..." Sherlock whispered from up in the tree.
"What was that?" John shouted up to him. Sherlock was surprised that John heard him; he jumped down from the tree, walked towards John and laid down next to where John was sitting on the grass. "Nothing, John." His eyes were squinting from the sun and he smiled at his friend, "Just thinking about things." John frowned. "Oh god. What things, Sherlock? I hope you're not coming up with a plan to get more homework from the teachers, because you know what happened last time." There was a pause, "Do you remember being shoved into that bin? I had to come and rescue you! I MISSED ENGLISH FOR YOU!" Sherlock laughed. "Yes I remember, but no. That's not what I was thinking about." Sherlock sat up and crossed his legs. John mirrored him.
Sherlock went serious all of a sudden. "John. Have you ever wanted to be in a relationship with someone?" John became fidgety and his palms started to sweat. "Um, I don't know. I've never given it much thought really. Why? Do you?" Sherlock put his hands together and put them to his chin. "Only for science. I'd like to see how the brain works when being in love." John swallowed hard. "Well, who would you want to be with? Shall we find someone or...?" John felt very awkward. Sherlock extended his arm and touched John's upper leg. "John, you're the only person I have." John looked into Sherlock's eyes and put his hand on Sherlock's which was touching his leg. "Oh, okay then. So, now we're in a relationship? For science?" John asked with a confused face. "Well, partly for science, John." Sherlock said whilst standing up. "And the other part?" John replied whilst joining his new boyfriend in standing. Sherlock moved in close to John and kissed him softly on the cheek. John's hand immediately went up and touched where Sherlock had kissed. "Well, because I want to." Sherlock winked. He grabbed John's hand and guided him into the house.
