I entered the school with my long blue scarf flowing behind me. I strode to my locker, making sure not to make eye contact with any of the commoners. You see, I come from a very rich family, but was sent to this public school in order to learn to "be grateful for what I already have", even though I see no point to it. However, one very special girl has caught my eye. She is in my biology class and is in charge of taking care of the fish that are kept in the class as a pet. She is very passionate about them to the point that she will take them home with her over vacations so that they don't die over the breaks. I knew her even before I came to this lowly school though…
It was when I was only 5 years old. There was a young girl that lived next door to me. She had long black, wavy hair and always wore the same pink tutu every day. She would run outside to her family's koi pond and sit there for hours just watching them swim around. Her family was also very rich, so it was only natural that my family wanted to have ties with them and vice versa. We were introduced formally when we were 7. Her name was Feferi, but everyone called her Fef as a nickname. For a long time we were very close. We even had that time that we thought we were going to get married one day. However, our friendship was short lived.
When I was 10, I was walking home from school when I noticed a moving truck in the front yard of Fef's house. I ran inside to ask my parents what was going on, but they refused to tell me; they kept repeating that it was "adult matters". As a final statement, they said that I was not to associate myself with that family again. I know now what had happened. Her family's fortune had been lost due to a mistake at the bank. Their entire fortune had been wiped out and they had little money left. They chose to live with Feferi's mother's only sister. Unfortunately, she lived in an area on the opposite side of town, so I never got to see her again.
Now I am 16 years old and am at this public school. The first day I came here I knew that it was her. She had a pink skirt on, and was carrying a small fish tank with a single goldfish in it. I had never got enough courage to return to her and tell her everything that has happened since she left. Of course I realized on my first day that I still felt the way that I had when we were 7; dreaming that we were one day going to get married and be happy together. Unfortunately I had never worked up the courage to actually tell her about this. However, today was the day that I was going to tell her everything.
I shut my locker and adjust my scarf and hair. She is facing the opposite direction and my mind begins to race. My heart beats faster with every step that I take and get closer to her. Just as I reach her, I notice someone else. A boy with very short black hair and is, for some odd reason, wearing a set of 3D glasses. He says something and she bursts out laughing. I stand there for a minute, trying not to overreact. Trying to convince myself that this isn't happening. She walks away with him; his arm around her shoulders and her head leaning on his shoulder. I stand there, realizing that I had waited too long. I had lost her yet again; to someone else this time. This time, however, I had made the mistake, and because of that I didn't even have a chance anymore.
