Ra's solar barque traveled the sky, tracking the sun as it sank into the realm of the Gods by night. Anubis conducted the soul into the presence of Osiris to be judged. There the heart of the supplicant would be tested and weighed on Maat's scales against the delicate feather of Truth.
If the heart failed the jackal headed Anubis would bark his laughter into the dark and summon the God Ammit, the Devourer, to eat the unworthy heart. There would be no visit to the Field of Reeds for the condemned.
Some religions are tougher than others.
