The Doctor's new companion was an angel. But he wasn't like any of the Weeping Angels. Sure Castiel cried but it wasn't in a scary way and for no reason. The Doctor felt they had a slight connection in terms of what eventually happened to some of their friends and kin. Despite all this, he wasn't sure what it was that made him like the man. Was it the way Cas was just a strange to human customs as he? Was it the strange innocence the angel had that drew the Gallifreyan to like him?
He didn't know it, but Cas was the same way. There was something about the supposed childlike tendencies of the Doctor that reminded him of his friend Dean. For this, he could see straight through the goofiness directly to a lonely past.
Castiel has been an angel who was alone but the Doctor was a lonely angel.
