Kari—Why Her

Kari had often wondered why the Dark Ocean was her burden. Certainly, it was Ken's too, but why her? Why not TK, with his family problems, or Cody who had no father? Why Kari, the happy, careless dancer? She came from a whole, happy family; but even they could not protect Kari from the Dark Ocean.

Actually, if anyone had ever bothered to look past these outward appearances; if she herself could look past the upper level of her brain, they could see why her.

That was why the two closest to her- her best friend, TK; and her brother Tai- never wondered. That was why her next closest friends- The DigiDestined- only had to think for a moment before they understood. And that was why her 'friends' from school, even if they knew of the entire situation, would never understand.

This last was why the Dark Ocean chose her. As dearly as she loved the DigiDestined, she wanted to be a normal girl, whose best friends were of her own age, and girls like her. The closest she had was Yolie, but then, Yolie was always a little odd.

The Dark Ocean didn't choose Kari because she had no friends, because in no way was that true. She wasn't chosen because she had the wrong friends, either. She was chosen because in her own, deepest heart, Kari thought that she had the wrong friends, that she had done something wrong to have such friends.

The self-doubt and confusion over what this wrong thing was, that was why the Dark Ocean chose her.

A/N I'm quite pleased with it, but please tell me if it makes sense. Sometimes I don't understand my logic.

I think this is going to be Kari's chapter for the DigiGirl's tributes.

Tell me what you think!

Pax out!
