I know, dear readers, I should be working on "Letters to Arthur" and more FACE fanfictions, and that one request fic I got about writing a story based off of Hatsune Miku's "Crime and Punishment", but I just couldn't pass up the chance to post this one.

The plot bunny itself was old... I think it's about four years old now.

Title: The Red Scarf

Author: fullmoon'11

Warnings: None for this chapter, although this will be USUK later on. Nothing for now, except for a bunch of evil fairies. Oh, and this is set in an AU, so no country names.

Summary: A red scarf brings together two unwitting soulmates once separated by an ocean.

There once was a red scarf.

It was a lovely red scarf, all warm and fluffy.

The little boy with green eyes and large eyebrows who received the scarf from his mother was very happy. Now he could keep his neck warm on cold winter days, with the new comfy red scarf he received from his mother one Christmas.

Soon after completing the scarf, his mother left the world. His father was often away on business, and didn't care about him, so he had nothing to keep close to him but his scarf.

One day, as the little boy and the scarf were out walking, a gust of wind came along and tugged on the ends of the scarf. The little boy, intent on talking with Flying Mint Bunny and the fairies, didn't notice, and the fairies being fae didn't bother telling him. After all, his misery was their food.

It unraveled slowly from his neck and flew away, fluttering in the wind like a great red bird. He noticed it too late and gave a cry.

He chased after it, but his short little legs could not carry him far enough.

It flew and flew, far above the grey skies of foggy London, until it became a small red speck in the sky, and then that disappeared.

The little boy sat down on the dingy pavement and began to cry. His lovely red scarf, his mother's only gift, was gone. The fairies whispered comforting (though empty) words in his ears as they sought to extract every last bit of misery from him. It had been far too long since they had last eaten.

Far, far away, in another country, across a great wide ocean, a little boy with blue eyes who lived in a house in Boston saw something red dangling on a tree branch. So, being the naturally curious boy that he was, he climbed up the tree to get a closer look. The red bundle was just a little bit further… just one more inch…!

He fell out of the tree and landed in a leaf pile in his backyard, unconscious, the red scarf clutched tightly in his hands.

His mother found him there a few hours later and screamed. He was hurriedly driven to the hospital, scarf still tightly clutched in his hands.

When he was released a week later with his leg in a cast, he had the scarf snugly wrapped around his neck.

Around his neck it stayed, except for when he had to get it washed, for thirteen years.

And the day the boy began high school, his teacher made an announcement.

"Class, this year we are welcoming an exchange student from England!"

So yeah, that's all I have for now. Be prepared for erratic updates!

Please read and review, well, if you've time to do so.
