I never mentioned this but I am a huge fan of the show Inuyasha. After watching Kikyo and Kagome alone in the cave I got the inspiration for this little number. It's one of those one shots all of us Inuyasha fans will enjoy. So enjoy.

The fire smoldered and died. The others had long ago fallen asleep. He sat there in the darkness watching her. He slowly moved closer to her and brushed the hair away from her face. "It's so easy to talk to you like this Kagome. I only wish it could be this easy when your awake. I could never tell you when your awake though." The white haired dog-demon perched his back against atree and continued to watch her.
"We've been traveling together so long that it seems you've always been a part of my life. You've seen the worse parts of me and you've seen me at my best, and yet you have never looked at me like there was a difference. Whenever you look at me that's all you see. You see the person as themselves no matter what. You look at Miroku and you don't see the lecher that he keeps using as an act. I don't know when he'll admit he cares for Sango. Who am I to talk. I sit there talking your ear off when your not even awake to hear it." "
All of my life there's been a void in my heart. At one point Kikyo was able to fill that part of me, or so I thought. I realize now that if I had truly loved her I could never have fought her when I thought that she had betrayed me. You on the other hand, It was like you where made for me. You have such passion and such a strong sense of justice, before you I never cared about what was right and wrong, and while sometimes I might disagree what that is but I still want to thank you for awakening that part of me. It was like you were the light to my dark. You balance me, you make me complete."
The half demon slowly moved his hand to cup hers. "I just wish that I could tell you this when your awake. I love you Kagome. When we've finally finished with Naraku I will stay with you wherever you may go."
The hand he was cupping slowly squeezed his. "Inuyasha." She slowly rolled over. "Don't ever leave me." Inuyasha watched as she continued to slumber.
"Don't worry Kagome, the only thing that could take me from you is death, and even then I would watch over you." Inuyasha's eyes began to tear at the thought that one day he might lose her. "I will always protect you my love." The dog-demon moved and lightly brushed his lips over Kagome's. He moved back over to his rock and slowly drifted to sleep.
"I know you will Inuyasha. I know you will. Kagome said looking at her beloved before finally falling asleep for the first time that night.
