Return to Space Colony ARK

"Shadow?"

"Yes, Maria?"

"Remember the promise we made that day?"

"Yes. Why?"

"Because I fear we may-"

Without warning, several soldiers marched into the room, clad in black, and each carried a massive gun. Alarms blared loudly, and the entire roomed was tinted red.

Shadow twisted and turned feverishly in the darkness of G.U.N's HQ. He had been plagued by these horrible nightmares ever since he had joined G.U.N.

"Run, you two! Get to the escape pods!" Gerald yelled above the noise.

"But what about you, professor?" Shadow asked.

"I'll be fine! Just get Maria to safety!" Gerald reassured.

Back in the cozy G.U.N bunkroom, Shadow began to whine pitifully. He knew what was going to happen next.

As they darted down the long corridor, Gerald's other creations went berserk and lunged at the black hedgehog. Growling, he rapidly fired Chaos Spears at them. Sparks flew across the hallway, lighting it up with such intensity that it blinded the creatures.

A massive explosion was heard from behind. Shadow's ears twitched. That only meant one thing: G.U.N had killed his master. Panicking, he rushed towards a door, and it opened automatically. Grinning triumphantly, he entered the room, but to his great shock –

-There was only one pod left.

Shadow trembled, as if cold.

"Great," He snapped. "now how we going to get out of here?"

"I don't think you should be worrying about that right now…"Maria warned, hearing the heavy thumping of the soldiers' boots. It continued to get louder and louder, with increasing rapidity.

"Don't move, or we'll shoot!" one ordered.

Ignoring the solder's commands, Maria promptly shoved Shadow into the pod and positioned herself near the switch.

"Don't you dare pull that switch, young lady!" another shouted.

Maria's beautiful blue eyes turned to Shadow, who began to kick at the glass, wanting to defend his friend.

"No!" he begged.

Maria pulled the lever. "Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog!"

As Shadow's pod was dropped from the ARK, a massive "boom" was heard, announcing the death of the young girl. This image would be forever imprinted in the hedgehog's mind.

Shadow's crimson eyes snapped open. "Maria…" he groaned, getting out of bed. "Why does this keep happening to me?" he put a hand on his forehead, as if checking for a fever. "I'd better go see Rouge. She ought to know what's going on." With those words, he skated off into the darkness of the main room.
