A/N: I've been wanting to write some Harry Potter fanfiction for a very long time now, and this is my first attempt. Casey's background story is, obviously, based on the new content Rowling displayed about History of Magic in North America. However, the fic will take place in Hogwarts. Since there is not much information about Ilvermonty itself yet, I might commit a few mistakes when it comes to the school during the story (which I will gladly fix as soon as new stuff come out). Anyway, I hope you guys like it.

Casey looked around her bedroom in Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The light was shining through the big and ornamented window, spreading the end of the summer heat, and making everything look comfortable and cozy. The girl sighed heavily, of course the place would feel perfect just as she was about the leave, most likely for good. To be honest, Casey never quite felt at home in Ilvermorny, always wondering if she really belonged there, but she couldn't deny that she was going to miss everything. Not because of her friends - she didn't have many, anyway - or the school itself, but because she knew that leaving meant something was not right with her life.

She always knew this moment would come, sooner or later. But after her parents death two weeks before, she knew the Magical Congress would send her away. They couldn't risk having to deal with another war between Wizards and No-Majs, and the murder of two of the most important members of MACUSA -Mr and Mrs. Baldwin- meant that the conflict was proving to be inevitable. And of course, following her parents wish, the Congress had to protect the girl at all costs. To do so, MACUSA would have to erase Casey Baldwin completely from existence, so the Scourers could not attempt to find and go after her. Knowing that she also couldn't stay at Ilvermorny, considering she didn't have any family members left to take care of her during Summer, they only had one alternative. The Congress would have to send her away, across the ocean to the Old World. To Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Casey stood there, in her room, enjoying her last moment as herself, before she had to change her name, leave behind her home, her life. With all that had happened in the last two weeks, she didn't even have time to mourn the death of her parents. Allowing herself to have a moment of weakness, she let her body fall onto the bed, her face buried in her hands, silently crying over everything she had lost. The pain she had blocked for fourteen days came crashing toward her, hitting her like a tidal wave. I can do this, Casey said under her breath between quiet sobs, trying to convince herself more than anything. She wouldn't give up, not now. She would make her parents proud, wherever they were.

After she was done crying -what took her a good forty minutes- the girl put back on the facade she had worn for years, concealing all the pain and grief she was feeling deep down. She would be strong, like she had always been. She had to, there was no other choice. Casey Baldwin was not one to run away from challenges and fears. She was strong. With that thought in mind, the girl took a tight grip around her wand and walked to the door of her bedroom, not looking back as she bid her old life goodbye.

So this is it. Let me know what you think. I'll probably post the first real chapter in a few days.

PS: I'm looking for a beta reader for this story. If you're interested, send me a PM.
