"Vampires are easily distracted…"
The Cullens were sitting in their living room, as they always seem to be right before any sort of action happens. Bella was also with them, since she apparently has absolutely no social life outside of the Cullen home.
Suddenly, a certain werewolf whose name begins with "J" and ends with "acob Black" strode right into the house as if he owned the place, then plopped down onto the couch.
"Ah, there you are, Mutt," said Edward. "We must discuss how we are going to coordinate to get rid of Victoria."
"No problem," said Jake, who was not listening at all, but was for some reason staring aat himself in the little handheld mirror that he always carried with him (He even had a pocket for it on the strap he wore in wolf form). He began to put it away so that he could actually pay attention to what Jasper was saying.
"The most important thing to remember in this fight," began Jasper, "is to…to…" He paused, staring at the far corner of the room.
Alice looked at him in concern. "Jasper, I'm concerned," she said. "Are you alright?" Just then, she followed his gaze and saw what he was staring at. Her eyes glazed over in wonder and amazement. Soon, everyone but Bella and Jacob were staring at a single spot on the wall.
Curious, Jacob turned to see what they were looking at. All he saw was a small patch of reflected light. The kind that usually came from a pool, or a wristwatch, or…or…
He looked down at the mirror in his hand. Struck by an interesting notion, he tilted the mirror slightly. The Cullens all looked up to keep their eyes on the light. He moved it left. They turned left. He moved it right. They turned right.
After that, things got crazy. The light flew all over the room, on the walls, on the furniture, and even on the ceiling fan. No matter where the light went, every vampire's eyes were locked firmly on the light. They were so distracted by it that Emmet actually slipped off of his chair when the light went behind the couch.
Bella simply sat back, enjoying the hilarity of the situation. Suddenly, an idea occurred to her. She caught Jacob's eye and showed him a small object as she pulled it from her pocket. Jacob grinned back at the devious plan Bella had concocted.
The Cullens then noticed a little red laser dot right next to the light. It moved in sync with the mirror, always right behind in its movements. Then, the red dot began to go in a different direction than the light from the mirror. This confused the Cullens, because both lights were equally mesmerizing, and it was difficult to choose which one to follow. The result was a combination of crossed eyes and falling out of seats.
At this point, Bella and Jacob could not keep their lights steady due to their peals of laughter. Bella leaned over to Jacob and whispered in his ear, "Where's a camera when you need one? We could hold this one over their heads for years."
Edward blinked at these words, and his eyes came back into focus as he realized what he and his family had done. He turned to glare at the laughing mutt and his own giggling girlfriend.
"You two," he growled menacingly, "are so dea—Ooh, look! That speck of dust is shaped exactly like Karl Marx's head!" He leapt across the room and stared at a spot on the wall, entranced.
Jacob and Bella shared a look and grinned. Wow, Bella thought. Vampires really are easily distracted!
