Ron can smell the fresh air, even though it was still cloudy and 50 degrees outside.

As he continued to celebrate this joyous triumph of himself becoming the football captain of the Middleton Mad Dogs, he immediately called up his dad, David, to listen to the good news.

David was at home, taking the week off from actuary work for Thanksgiving. He was sound asleep on the sofa alongside with his son's pink naked mole rat, Rufus. When the phone rang, it stirred both his father and Rufus awake.

He picked up the phone to listen to the conversation of his son.

R: Hey Dad! I have excellent news!!

Mr. S: Hey, son! What seems to be going on, today?

R: Dad, guess what? I am now the official football captain of the Mad Dogs!! Is Rufus there?

At those words, David gave a jaw drop. Then he turned to Rufus.

"Rufus! You hear this?" David said to the mole rat.

"Huh?" Rufus said as he rubbed his beady eyes. David handed the phone off to him.

R: Rufus, is that you, old bud?

"Yeah?" Rufus asked in a dazed look. The mole rat who had saved Team Possible numerous times didn't know what had happened over the last 4 hours.

R: Rufus, guess who is the football captain of the Middleton Mad Dogs?

"R-R-Ron, the f-football captain?" Rufus stammered then rubbed his beady black eyes again. Even he couldn't believe the news. He gave a brief shriek and a jump for joy as he handed the phone back to David.

R: So, Dad, how are we going to tell Mom about this news? She works until 4:30.

Mr.S: I'm going to surprise your mother about this news over at the Possibles' house. Right now, it's around 1:10. Why don't you come home and rest for a couple of hours?

R: Sure Dad, Thanks! Bye!

Mr.S: Bye, son.

After 10 minutes of waiting in the front of Middleton High, Ron finally spotted his father's station wagon. When Ron approached the car, Rufus came out and gave a warm embrace to his master. Ron patted him back and shaked his hand.

Then, Rufus returned to his usual hiding spot: in Ron's pants pocket.

As he got home, the new football captain, Middleton's only hope of winning the series, instantly fell asleep alongside his longtime pet for the next couple of hours.
