Summary: Sometimes paying attention will show you things you didn't think could ever be possible.

He'd watch the two of them together. He'd watch them separately as well, just to make sure he wasn't missing anything important. He watched their farce of a relationship continue, somehow surviving even the most explosive of fights. He watched the way he treated her like a princess, like she was everything he needed in this world. And he watched as she repeatedly beat him down, more emotionally then physically. Every time he saw this he resisted the urge to protect him, shield him from her harsh words and actions.

Only two things ever stopped him. The looks on Remy's face. The acceptance, the resignation that this was the best he'd ever get, that this was what he deserved. And, when she would finally take him back, the happiness those red on black eyes would hold. That was what stopped him from doing something, anything that might replace the loneliness in his own heart, get rid of the constant ache that accompanied his watching of them together.

But lately the loving looks he'd give her were becoming fewer and farther between. Their fights would last longer, and be much more heated and violent then the previous. Sometimes, when he was really paying attention he'd swear some of the loving looks would quickly flit his way before turning back to her.

So he'd keep watching, no matter the pain it caused, just for the slight chance to see one of those looks come his way again. Because, when their eyes meet, all the pain and loneliness disappears, if only for a moment.
