The Hardest Thing I'll ever have to do

Based on: The Hardest Thing I'll ever have to Do By: 98 Degrees

Lucas is sitting at the bar at Tric the neon lights over the bar bathing him in a soft glow as he watches a young couple dancing in the corner exchanging smiles and loving glances as they move slowly to the song. As he watches them he feels his heart drop into his stomach he can't help thinking he felt the way they do not to long ago even though it feels like years…

Brooke has been a great girlfriend nice, sweet caring beautiful and supportive he really has no room to complain. But he knows his heart just isn't it he still loves someone else..

Peyton Sawyer he knows his heart will always be hers for the rest of time. But he knows they just can't be together. If their brief relationship in High School taught him anything it was that fate or the universe or maybe even God just didn't want them to be together…

But just a few days ago he started to question that again. It was about a week ago he walked in the door of his and Brooke's apartment after a long day of coaching and that's when he heard it that same familiar laugh he'd heard so many times. The only problem it didn't belong to his girlfriend. He walks into the living room and sees Brooke and Peyton sitting beside each other on the couch laughing and talking just like they did back in High School…

She looked a little different with her shorter shoulder length blond curls and slightly more tanned skin but she was still the same girl that had captured his heart with her band t-shirts, black and white Chuck's, and that unmistakable smile framing her delicate but tough features..

Just then Brooke notices him standing their watching them "Hey boyfriend look who's back.." She says smiling softly at him "Yeah I see that hey Peyton.." Lucas says trying his best to smile "Hey Luke its been a while.." Peyton says a soft smile on her face but Luke has seen it before this situation is hurting her as much as it hurts him.

But he sits down beside Brooke anyway not wanting to worry Brooke as the girls continue to talk back and forth. On the outside Peyton seems happy telling them about her last 5 years in L.A working as a small time music producer at a small label. When Brooke asks her why she would give it up to move back she simply says she missed Tree Hill and she missed her friends but Luke can see it in her soft baby blue eyes she might have missed all that other stuff but she missed him the most…

And its in that moment he had to do the Hardest thing he's ever had to do. He has to just sit their and let her hurt on the inside. Because he's with Brooke and she's been good to him and doesn't deserve that.. So he just has to bury his feeling masking his emotions he can never let her see how much he still loves her..

So from now on if she ever asks him if he ever thinks about her he has too look her in the eye and tell her that he doesn't love her for her sake and Brooke's.

He doesn't like that he can never hold her when she cries or show her his true emotions but its for the best. And that leads him to here sitting in this bar drinking away his pain and his emotions so that Peyton can get on with her life that she deserves.

And that is the Hardest Thing He'll ever have to do
