Jen and Nick's split on the show is probably for keeps which is disappointing but not really surprising. To me it didn't seem completely resolved by the end of the final episode so I wrote this because it would be nice if Jen did eventually decide to keep her relationship with Nick. The story is completely sappy but there you go... hope you enjoy.

She reached over to him, "Thanks Nick." Then she got up and walked away from him. She seemed to do it so easily. He could hardly look at her anymore: his beautiful Jen, the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with and it was all he could manage to keep his composure though voice wavered slightly as he said, "Happy to do that." And he meant it from the depth of his heart. He would have done anything for her. She didn't see his face as it crumpled with the utter devastation of the loss he felt.
She'd meant to go straight home after she left the dinner but she found she couldn't face going home just yet and ended up driving around deep in thought. The past week without him she had missed Nick very much. Though the team didn't know why his behaviour had been strained she did and his obvious distress since she'd ended it made her feel worse. She missed his quiet support, talking through work problems and his comfort during difficult cases. She missed going to sleep in his arms and waking up cuddled up with him each morning. She'd taken to falling asleep cuddling the pillow he'd slept on. The bed felt empty and cold without him next to her. Her brief discussion with Bernice Waverly and all that evenings talk of sacrifice and personal loss had got to her. She was still confused and didn't have any answers: She wanted her career but was that really enough for her for the rest of her life? She wanted Nick too but did she want it enough to make it last?
Somehow she'd ended up outside his house and standing on his doorstep. He'd opened the door before she could turn around. He stood there looking at her in surprise. She looked so beautiful, the light from the house reflecting off the shiny material on the blue dress she wore. He wanted to take her in his arms but instead he motioned to her to come in and he breathed in her perfume as she passed him. They stood in his lounge room, close together but not touching, not quite facing each other, neither saying a word. After a few minutes of silence she said, " I'm sorry Nick. I shouldn't have come here" and she started to walk out but he caught her arm gently, his forehead now touching hers, pleading, "Don't go." They finally looked into each other's eyes and she could see the depth of his pain. She reached up and held his cheek in her hand. Their lips met and his arms found their way around her body. Oh how she'd missed him and the tender way he expressed his feelings. Tears streamed down her face as she kissed him back, his hand stroked her cheek tenderly wiping the tears away as he held her close against his body. "Stay with me" he said against her mouth, "Just one more time. I'll let you go no matter what you decide, please just stay with me one more night."
The passion slowly built between them as they moved together. He took his time making love to her, prolonging the end for as long as he could until they clasped each other as the waves of passion overwhelmed them. He rolled onto his side but he didn't let her go, their bodies joined, tangled up together in a tender embrace. He kissed her over and over again, her face, her neck, her lips, "I love you" he said, his voice breaking slightly. They clung to each other as she started to sob against his shoulder, nuzzling his cheek and kissing his neck, "I don't know what to do Nick." Tears pricked in his eyes, "It's OK. You don't have to decide right now. There isn't anyone else for me but you Jen. I'll wait."
