Wilting Blooms
Sometimes, the simplest things in life are the ones that mean the most.
That night they kill Mirai's first Youmu. Akihito and Mirai. Just the two of them. That night he discovers her anaemia. That night they wove flower crowns into each other's hair. That night, they felt normal. That night, they were just teenagers soaking in the moonlight, and nothing more. That night, all thoughts pertaining to Youmu and cursed blood were banished.
That night they gained something, and now, they lost it.
She tries, so very hard, not to cry anymore as she sets the flower crown on his head, and the bouquet of white roses in his arms as she chokes out her final goodbyes. She can't do this - she doesn't know who can; which murderer could face their victim and truly say goodbye, especially if it was someone, someone they really knew, and someone who understood them?
She lifts his arms gently, and slides the bundle of blossoms beneath them, and leans down, tears dripping onto his body as she whispers her eternal apologies. She's holding up the small queue, she knows, but she doesn't care. She wants to do this one last time, and she knows she has to.
The queue behind her starts to get a tad frustrated, though none dare yell at her to hurry - they've all lost someone in so many different ways. Because that one day, a son, a friend, a lover was lost.
Trembling, she sets the flower crown on his head and lifts her right hand to her lips, kissing her three middle fingers before setting them on his cold lips. Her body shakes as she does this, and she feels nauseous, and she so desperately wants to rewind time, and live in those few moments of that one night where they sat in the field of flowers for the rest of eternity.
Her whisper is faint, and she sinks to the ground beside his coffin in defeat. She can't live with herself anymore. She can't stand herself, the very person who sank her scimitar into the only other person who truly understood her, and what her last words to him were.
"S-Senpai... Do I... look like a... normal person... to you..?"
A/N: This may seem strange, with all the Hunger Games references (Katniss and Peeta with the flower crowns, and the three finger salute), but in all honesty, this was inspired by an old Tears to Tiara scene, where Riannon and Arthur weave flower crowns as children, and my country's Minister Mentor's farewell to his late wife (which was a few years back). My aim here was to depict the guilt and burden Mirai has to carry in killing Akihito, and I suppose I did so quite decently.
