"Most of my nightmares involves you and I'm scared that one day they become true."
Darkness was all around, only stars and moon shone bright in the dark blue sky. The mansion was quiet and peaceful, everyone was already asleep except for Regina. She was lying in her bed with her eyes pointed to the ceiling. She couldn't sleep, she couldn't stay in her bed, not anymore. Every time she tried to close her eyes, the nightmare was coming back. It all seemed so sharp and clear, always the same way. She watched Daniel's death and before she could do anything, she was awake with her heart pounding in her chest. Regina desperately needed someone to comfort her, but there was nobody around. She climbed out of bed and walked through the window. It was a beautiful night and she thought about Daniel. She already knew that he was someone really important to her and loosing him, even in a nightmare, was something that caused an ache in her chest. She decided to walk through the mansion in an attempt to clear her head from the awful thoughts. Walking along the dark corridor she ran into someone, a quiet cry in her throat. Her heart almost escaped her chest when a hand immediately covered her mouth to suppress the sound.
"Shh… it's ok, Regina, it's just me" Daniel said quietly not to wake anyone.
His hand on her lips felt warm and pleasant. She smiled trough his fingers and looked up searching for his face in the darkness.
"What are you doing here? It's late!" She asked in a whisper when her lips were finally free from his hand.
"I heard noises coming from your room so I wanted to check if everything was alright." She hesitated for a moment and for one short second Daniel was able to notice the fear in Regina's eyes.
"Oh… right. All is fine." Her smile was clearly forced.
"Gina… I can see that something is wrong. You should be in your bed by now! Instead you're rambling around." His eyes were relentless, however she found a little sign of anxiety in his gaze.
She sighed and rolled her eyes. "It was just a nightmare and I couldn't go back to sleep." She wasn't looking at him but she could tell that he concentrated all his attention on her.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He offered trying to relax her.
"No… Not really. I just…" She exhaled through her nose. "Need someone." Regina wasn't sure if she could ask him for such a thing. But the moment she looked in his eyes, all doubts were gone. "Could you stay with me tonight… please?"
"I would do anything for you Gina. Don't ever doubt that!" She smiled at him in relief and he pulled her into him in a gentle hug.
When they were walking back to her chambers she lost herself in thoughts. He was her dream come true. She didn't need a rich prince on white horse or a knight in shining armor. Daniel, the stable boy, was all she ever wanted.
When she lay in bed surrounded by his arms she felt safe and sound and it was the greatest feeling in the entire world. To be hugged by him, her true love, to feel his breath on her face. She smiled wide and looked up at his handsome face.
"I think I love you like nobody else in the entire world, Daniel."
"I love you too, Gina. You have no idea how much." He replied and put a gentle kiss on her forehead.
