Chapter 1:
Lily's POV
Lily Evans stepped off the Hogwarts Express, reminding herself that just because every girl at Hogwarts is in love with James Potter doesn't mean she had to be. They'd only been at Hogwarts for a minute and she could already hear James and his annoyingly loud friends a few feet behind them.
"Do they ever shut up?" Lily groaned. Beside her, Elena and Mary laughed.
"Maybe if you at least talked to James. What's so annoying about him anyway? Everyone else seems to think he's pretty hot," Elena answered, looking back at James.
"He is hot. Come on Lilyyy" Mary urged, still laughing at Lily's annoyed expression.
"Never. He's probably the most annoying kid of our year. He's stuck up and snobby and his hair is insanely messy. Does he ever brush his hair? Honestly…" Lily started rambling as Elena and Mary giggled. They made their way to the Great Hall and found their seats at the Gryffindor table for the start-of-term feast.
"Can we just eat already? Do we need to watch the first years get sorted?" Elena groaned, running her hands through her golden hair.
"Shush Elena," Lily replied. They watched as the first years entered the room lead by Professor Slughorn. God they look nervous. Lily laughed remembering her experience with the sorting hat ceremony.
"Rosemarie Sanders…" Slughorn called. A girl about 5 feet tall with bright red hair nervously stepped up to where the sorting hat was.
Suddenly Remus, Peter, Sirius and James sat down in the empty seats in front of them. "Hello ladies." Sirius flashed a smile at them.
"Sorry but those seats are taken." Lily shot them a look. Please no. Please don't sit here.
"Sorry Evans but these are the only seats left." James replied smiling at her. God he's annoying. They boys sat down in front of them and James, of course, took the seat right across from Lily. "So how was your summer Evans?"
"Quiet Potter. I'm trying to listen to the sorting hat." Lily sighed looking away from him.
James laughed, clearly not taking the hint. Or just ignoring it. "Okay then. Maybe you can tell me about it tonight. We're going outside to try out my new broomstick after the feast. Did you girls want to come with us?"
"I don't…" Lily started, but Elena elbowed her before she could finish.
"Sure sounds fun. Who else is coming?" Elena replied, earning a glare from Lily. Both Elena and Mary smiled in return.
"Just the four of us boys and you girls. We'll stop by your dorms after the feast." James smiled at Lily. I am going to kill Mary. Suddenly food appeared in front of them, momentarily taking her mind off what just happened. It also shut the boys up since they were too busy stuffing their faces with food for the rest of the feast.
"What is wrong with you?" Lily yelled at Elena once they reached their dorm room. "You know I hate him. And we're not even allowed outside this late at night."
Elena unzipped her suitcase, looking for something to wear. "So what? We won't get in trouble. Those boys never get caught. Besides it's going to be fun. Maybe they'll let us fly with them."
Lily groaned, jumping into bed. "Come on Lily. School hasn't even started and you're already being boring. Do you even know how to have fun?" Mary teased.
"Okay okay. I'm coming." Lily mumbled. Crawling out of bed, she unzipped her suitcase and found a pair of jeans and a green sweater to wear. She quickly changed and brushed her hair. Unlike James. As she laid the brush down on her bed, there was a knock at the door. "I got it."
She opened the door to see James in khakis and a sweater that fit him very nicely. And, for once, his hair was combed. I guess there's a first for everything.
