Lindsay was outside of her office when Stella stopped her to talk about the case. She could hear Stella talking in the background, but the words never entered her brain. She was to preoccupied watching Danny; he was sitting at his desk looking at in the hall. She could tell he was not registering anything that was happening around him. She had been sent by Mac to take Danny home, he needed a few days, and Mac was determined to get him home. Lindsay didn't mind, she wanted him to tell her what was going on in his mind, so she could help him cope. Stella looked over and saw that Lindsay was thinking about Danny not the case, so she went to find Hawkes. Lindsay went and sat down in her chair across from Danny.
Lindsay didn't know what to say to him, how do you assure somebody everything was going to be alright, if you didn't know for sure? She debated in her head for a long time whether to say something reassuring or to tell him to just go home. Neither one seemed to really fit in this situation. So instead of listening to her head, her heart won and she grabbed his hand. Danny jumped a little when she first touched his hand. He hadn't had much human contact today, but instead of pulling away he squeezed it, and Lindsay sent him a small smile.
They sat there for what seemed to be an eternity, neither one saying anything. To an outsider it would seem that Lindsay was doing nothing to comfort him, but to Danny hearing her steady breathing reassured him that the world was not completely evil. Her breathing was starting to put him to sleep, when he felt a tug at his hand. He looked up to see Lindsay standing, holding out his jacket.
He stood up and put it on breaking the contact between the two, but quickly grabbed her hand again. He needed her strength right now. They walked out hand in hand a word never being spoken. They got a few sympathetic glances from lab techs, but neither one cared. Danny got out his keys, but Lindsay took them from him. She made sure he got in the passenger seat with a seatbelt on before getting in herself. Leaving the parking lot she turned left instead of right heading to her apartment. She figured it would be easier on him if he didn't have to pass by Ruben's door, and not hear the little boy laughing.
When the car stopped Danny looked out and was relieved to see that they were in front of Lindsay's apartment. He sent her a small strained smile, telling her he appreciated this. The smile put faith back in Lindsay, faith that he would be okay. It would just take awhile, she would wait on him though; after all he had waited for her. Entering Lindsay's apartment she led him to her bedroom, and they layed down on top of the covers.
"I'm not very good at this kind of thing."
"Your doing fine."
So please tell me what you think. This was hard for me to write and I would love your feedback.
