This was just something out of my brain. I really don't know where it came from... Rated K+ because I'm paranoid. :)

One swing, he thought. One wrong move and it's all over.

He danced in and out of the fray, around striking metal snakes, avoiding puddles of death. When it had begun, he did not remember. All he knew was that he had to keep moving, keep blocking, keep slicing. His feet moved automatically, trained as he had been from an early age.

A sword whistled past his ear, tearing him from his thoughts. One deft flick of his wrist and his enemy was felled, a crimson flower blooming on its chest.

He grimaced.

This was his life; he was a warrior. He had been in many battles in his time, sawing through bands of enemies alone. This was a part of it. Yet he hated the feel of flesh giving way, of bones splintering. Ear-splitting screams that sometimes accompanied would haunt him for days after. But this was who he was. This was all he knew.

Another charged him. With a leap, he felled it, somersaulting in mid-air to land next to his comrade, in the middle of a circle of ten enemies. Sharing a brief glance, they fell in sync, one swinging over the other's head as the second rolled to sever an enemy's knee. In seconds, only corpses remained, littered across the ground.

Off he sprinted to engage others in the never-ending army. His blade seemed to hum with savage delight as it drank in the motions of battle.

Suddenly, he stopped. Alone was he, surrounded by a multitude too numerous to count. He stood, still poised to strike, wondering what had caused the enemy to pause. A heavy stone dropped in his stomach as an unexplainable feeling of dread and destiny overtook him.

The whole rough circle around him burst into bellows, wordless war-cries that served as his only warning. He swung with all his might this way and that, but to no avail. The onset was too much.

As he was overtaken, he sent his last gaze to the sky. The stars shone above the fray. All pain inflicted him in that moment was forgotten, he was at peace, and then he knew no more.

So, what do you think? Who do you think it is? (To be perfectly honest, I had a character in mind when I wrote this, but... it could be so many Men, Elves, etc...) I want to know who your mind filled in! Please tell me! Please, please!
