Day 2: pineapple
Pairing: Moaning Myrtle/giant squid
Disclaimer: Harry Potter belongs to JK Rowling. I own nothing that you recognize.
Everyone had their own opinion on Moaning Myrtle's relationship with the giant squid. Some said it was love at first sight, while others laughed and said the squid was the only creature who would have her. But whatever the reason, Moaning Myrtle had formed a lasting friendship with the squishy squid, a friendship that would not be broken no matter what kind of jokes and comments the students made about them being together.
One morning Myrtle was cruising through the plumbing when she spied something interesting in one of the showers. She stopped for a closer look, and saw that one of the students had placed adhesive stickers on the shower floor.
She hovered there for a moment, turning her head this way and that as she looked at the tropical design on the shower floor. There were stickers shaped like palm trees, dolphins, watermelon, lemons and pineapples. These stickers were normally found in muggle households, and were used to stop people from slipping in the shower. It was obvious that some muggleborn had put them there, but to Myrtle they were nothing more than a pretty way to decorate the bathroom.
A thought occurred to her, and a smile crept across her pale, transparent features. Perhaps these colorful stickers could be used to decorate other things. And seeing as how they were water resistant, she knew they wouldn't get ruined when she brought them to her friend.
Myrtle used her magic to remove the stickers, then resumed traveling through the pipes, the stickers floating along behind her like a school of fish. She came out in the lake, still smiling as she approached the slumbering squid.
"Wake up, sleepy head," she crooned. "I've got a surprise for you." With a wave of her hand she caused the stickers to stick to the squid's head and tentacles, covering him with a whimsical assortment of plants and fruit.
A stream of bubbles escaped his mouth, the giant squid yawning and stretching as he came awake. He blinked his eyes, each massive orb as big as a dinner plate, his gaze slowly drifting towards the stickers she'd placed on him while he was asleep.
A moment passed, with Myrtle grinning from ear to ear, giggling as he looked from one sticker to the next. "Well," she said at length. "What do you think? They're quite lovely, aren't they?"
He smiled at her and nodded, and she threw herself at him, not caring that he couldn't feel her touch as she embraced him. The giant squid responded by putting his tentacles around her, feeling a chill pass through him as he made contact with the ghostly apparition.
They were two lonely individuals, doing what they could to find friendship. And despite the fact that they were quite an unusual pair, they were very happy together.
