Smile More

Lovino stared at his reflection in the mirror, scanning every small detail of his face. His hazel green eyes fixed onto his dry chapped lips and watched as his pink tongue slithered out and wetted them to provide temporary relief to the dryness. The corners of his mouth twitched up in attempt to smile, but fell when he began to feel ridiculous. He attempted again to smile, only for the corners to fall into a permanent scowl.

He was still frowning.

The Italian grumbled, determined to smile and to make it look natural. He was sick and tired of everyone telling him to smile more. He was sick of hearing how his brother was so adorable with his bright smile. His brother was adorable with his bright and cute smile, but he wanted to smile. Especially after hearing that Feliciano might like him more if Lovino smiled more. All he wanted was to receive that love from his brother, despite it being incestuous and wrong.

To Lovino's displeasure, his mouth stayed in a permanent frown, angering him. In his anger, Lovino raised his fist and punched the mirror, breaking the glass and his reflection. He ignored the pain in his hand and watched as blood began to drip from his wounded hand and through the small cracks in the mirror. He was panting for some reason, his heart racing in his chest as he glared furiously at his broken reflection.

One long shard of glass poked out of the mirror, gleaming dangerously in the light of the bathroom. Lovino slowly pulled it out of its place and held it in his hand, gazing at it in awe. The shard had a few spots of blood from Lovino's hand, but otherwise it was clean. It was long enough to cut or stab something and it was wide enough to hold like a knife.

A voice in his head screamed at him to put the shard down and to go clean off his bleeding hand, but another whispered maliciously in his ear to use it for harmful purposes. Lovino shook the voices off and opened his mouth, placing the shard in the corner of his mouth. He laughed nervously as he began to cut his mouth, carving it into a smile.

Blood poured down from his mouth, staining his clothes. Tears appeared in his eyes from the pain in his cheeks and ran down his face, mixing with the crimson blood. He continued to carve a smile from his mouth, pulling away the shard when the cut reached his cheekbone. He dropped the shard in the sink and stared at his broken reflection to see his bloody smile.

Lovino began to laugh quietly before it became louder and unstable. Tears poured down his cheeks with blood, but he didn't make any movement to wipe it away. His pupils became dilated and unstable, shaking as if he had been under the influence of drugs. His hands were covered with his blood, but he didn't mind.

He was going to smile forever now.
