I was inspired to write this by a picture of Team Minato I saw, in which Minato has to tuck each of the boys under one of his arms to keep them from fighting. Obito looks really mad and is waving his fist in the air; he seems to be in the act of saying something. Kakashi looks like he's got a thousand better things he could be doing, and isn't afraid to show it. Minato has the sort of smile on his face that bespeaks both supreme aggravation and the sentiment "I can handle it". Rin is standing nearby, looking freaked out by the whole situation. Judging by the fact that Rin barely reaches Minato's waist, I'm assuming they're still pretty young at this point.
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto.
Kakashi and Obito full-on glared at Minato as he mock-glared down at them. Neither of them were in the mood whatever it was their sensei was planning on saying to them.
The two boys sat on opposite ends of the couch, trying to keep as far away from each other as they possibly could. Kakashi sported a black eye, Obito a split lip that was dribbling blood down his chin and pooling at the hollow that his deep collar provided. Both were disheveled and radiating dislike. Rin sat nearby in an easy chair, her legs folded into the seat of the chair; she alone seemed completely unscathed, and she was also irritated, though for a different reason.
Minato sighed and shook his head as he stared down at the two nine-year-olds. "Okay, you two, what happened?"
Obito shot an arm out and pointed accusingly at Kakashi. "He started it," Obito muttered mutinously.
Kakashi folded his arms around his chest and said nothing, wincing at the action (no doubt do to the bruises Obito had inflicted on his ribs), glaring coldly at his teammate.
The clock ticked back and forth as Minato rolled his eyes. "Yes, Obito, I am aware that Kakashi started it."
Black eyes stared nastily at Minato as Kakashi spoke up for the first time. "How do you know I started it?"
Minato shot the look that indicated "Don't start with me" at his student. "Because you start everything, Kakashi. Now, I'm going to ask again, and do not make me ask a third time. What happened?"
They refused to say anything. Minato had expected that. Whenever they fought, Obito and Kakashi refused to say what it was about. Rin usually kept quiet too, though it was clear she knew, considering how supremely disgusted she got with her teammates whenever they fought. The fair-haired teenager rubbed a hand to his forehead underneath his hitai-ate.
"You two…" He stopped for a moment then started again. "I was only gone for five minutes, and when I got back you were trying to kill each other. What on earth could be that bad?"
In the end, all Minato could say with any certainty was that Kakashi had started it. He got no further information out of them that day.
Rin shook her head and snarled exasperatedly, settling further into the chair. She glared at the two boys, who instantly started backing away from her instead.
"I'm the only one with any common sense, aren't I, sensei?" she asked in the long-suffering tone adopted by those who had to put up with this sort of thing on a regular basis.
Minato forced a fake smile on his face, his eye twitching and answered her. "Take it from me, Rin. Common sense is inherently uncommon." He patted her head. "And yes, you are the only one here with any sense at all."
This provoked prompt twin protests from the miscreants on Minato's team. He didn't listen, and focused instead on going into the kitchen and pouring himself some coffee. After a while, Minato had simply become capable of tuning them out.
