The intentions of the demon that had captured Kazutaka Muraki were less than benign. They consisted, mainly, of draining all of Muraki's power from him, and then killing him. Muraki, however, began to contrive plans to escape as soon as he realized the demon's plans.
The demon had spirited Muraki away to a small promontory that seemed to fairly hum with some otherworldly quality that Muraki was unable to place. The demon was now scratching rune marks into a tablet, and though Muraki was unable to place most of them, he recognized a few, and was able to positively identify the spell as being one to drain him of his power, and with it, his life. Muraki, had, in fact, used similar spells in his own work, so he was familiar the more intricate mechanics of the process.
Wracking his brain, Muraki had an idea. After cutting his bonds, he slowly reached his hand down to his leg, where he kept his phone. Only one person had the number, and she was the only one he ever called on it. Trying not to move much, Muraki hit the speed dial for Ukyou's number. He felt the phone vibrate slightly as the call went through, and he sent up a fervent prayer to no one that Ukyou would see his call, and understand.
A moment later, he felt the phone vibrate against his leg again. Apparently Ukyou had gotten the call, and become worried when he hadn't said anything. He called back, hoping the demon was too absorbed in his work to notice anything. After that, there was not much Muraki could do. He kept an eye on the demon, periodically trying to ring Ukyou on the sly, hoping that his plan would work.
And work it did, even more spectacularly than Muraki could have hoped for. Ukyou pulled up in a huge SUV, creating a great ruckus that disturbed the demon from his work. Muraki immediately gallivanted into action when the demon's attention was turned. He dashed to the runes, and replaced his name with Ukyou's. Then, Muraki turned and started running. The demon, having subdued Ukyou by this point, quickly recaptured Muraki, and dragged him back to the circle, where Ukyou lay unconscious. This time, the demon had tied Muraki so well that there was no chance whatsoever that he would be able to escape. Muraki didn't even have the freedom of movement to crane his head to check if Ukyou was still alive, though he sent up a fervent prayer that she was.
The demon began the ritual, and Muraki waited on tenterhooks. When the demon began the section to drain Muraki's power, the changes in the runes caused the spell to focus on Ukyou, and that was when Muraki ran. He quickly summoned Touda, and gave him instructions to fetch Tsuzuki, and bring him to the site of the spell.
The demon, meanwhile, had killed Ukyou, and terminated the spell. He charged toward Muraki, intent on killing him. The battle that naturally followed was fast and furious. The demon sped around, attempting to knock Muraki off his feet, and get him at a disadvantage. Muraki, meanwhile, was firing off hexes and curses, trying to foist the demon off.
They went on in this vein for quite some time, until Muraki got a lucky shot into the demon's eye, and his opponent fled.
Tired, bloody, and dizzy, Muraki collapsed to the ground, hoping faintly that Touda was doing his job- and that Tsuzuki was in a good mood.
