Title: Anchor
Summary: Major Sheppard thinks about the anchors in his life.
Paring: None.
Disclaimer: Stargate Atlantis is not mine and neither is the song. The song 'Anchor' belongs to Life House.
Note: This is the last story in the Inner Thoughts series. Takes place after 38 minuets but I don't think there are any actual spoilers.
Several hours after getting the bug off of him, Major John Sheppard laid in the infirmary pretending to be asleep, listening to McKay and Beckett banter about how much of a science medicine really was, with Ford throwing in the occasional comment. And even though his eyes were closed John knew that Teyla and Dr. Weir were there as well, he could feel them each sitting on one side of his bed.
They hadn't been on Atlantis for very long but already these five people were responsible for helping John make changes in his life that he never thought he'd be able to make. He was changing, for the better, because of these people and they would probably never know how much of a lifeline they were for him.
I stand with a blank expression now
and I can't believe myself
will someone tell me how
did I get here
I am walking
changing slowly
I am chasing
climbing closer
I know that I'll never be alone
you will never let me go
you are my anchor
hold my hand
while I'm sinking in the sand
no one else could understand
you are my anchor
At times John couldn't believe the luck he'd had when he met these people. If it hadn't been for them and the whole expedition to Atlantis John would probably still be stuck in his dead end assignment at McMurdo Air Force Base.
To most people, John was a laid back mellow guy unless someone was threatening his people then he became your worst nightmare. Not many people really knew how screwed up John used to be or knew how many times he'd tried to reached out in his own way, only to have no one there. There were so many times John had wished for away out of the life he was living.
It seems that I lost track of time
and I can't believe my mind
would you save me if
I reached out to you
I'm waiting, watching, standing
I am reaching
climbing closer
I know that I'll never be alone
you will never let me go
you are my anchor
hold my hand
while I'm sinking in the sand
no one else could understand
you are my anchor yeah
anchor yeah
anchor yeah
There were times John had thought about making is own way out and ending it all. But then Atlantis had happened and all of the sudden his life hadn't seemed so bad, it had actually started to look pretty good. It wasn't an over night change, but gradually John had started to notice changes about himself and it was all because of the people surrounding him now.
John knew that if he ever felt himself slipping back into that dark place inside himself all he had to do was find one of these people and he would be ok. They would all be there for him anchoring him, keeping him from drowning in the darkness.
I am walking
changing slowly
I am chasing
climbing closer
I know that I'll never be alone
you will never let me go
you are my anchor
hold my hand
while I'm sinking in the sand
no one else could understand
you are my anchor yeah
anchor yeah
anchor yeah
can you hear me
hear me
can you hear me
