Dear Mum,
I'm doing well.
I've been spending a lot of time in a certain room, planning. I won't say which room, though. Right now, I feel you're the only one I can and Aunt Bellatrix that is.
As you might've heard, Katie Bell from the Gryffindor Quidditch team got cursed by an opal necklace on our last trip to Hogsmeade. I know what you're thinking, and yes, you're right. I did send it to her. I put the imperio curse on Madam Rosemerta and had her give the parcel to the first girl to come into the female loo. Bell happened to be that girl. It didn't work and Dumbldedore is still alive.
I'm grateful the Dark Lord has given me another chance. I must prove myself, I must bring up our family name once again.
Snape cornered me the day before Christmas break. He told me that he knew what I was doing and he wanted to help me. I sneered at him. He probably wants all the fame to himself! He claims he made the unbreakable vow with you to protect me, but vow or no vow, I don't trust him.
Did you really make the vow with him?
Never mind, I will succeed on my own; he doesn't have to stand by it, I need no protection! There's nothing I would need protection from in the first place.
On the subject of Dumbledore, he'll be easy enough to get to. His hand is injured somehow; it's all black, wrinkly and it's wilting. It's his wand hand as well, I've seen him cast spells with it. Hopefully this means that his spells will be as weak as his hand is. That will make everything a whole lot easier.
Right now, though, I'm in my room, which I still will not name, trying to fix something. I've been working on it since September. It's a vanishing cabinet. There's another one at Borgin and Burkes which I went to without your permission, I apologize for that, but I needed to or we might have gotten hurt. We still might get hurt by Him. If I fix it correctly, the Death Eaters will be able to come to Hogwarts through the vanishing cabinet in Borgin and Burkes. I'm having Greyback check on Borgin to make sure he keeps his promise, which was to keep it in the shop and not sell it to anyone. So far he hasn't.
Alongside my vanishing cabinet plan, I am working on other way to kill Dumbledore in case I don't fix the cabinet correctly. I plan to give poisoned mead from Rosemerta; she's already my slave from the imperio curse. How I'm going to do that, I haven't quite figured it out, but I hope to by Christmas so I can give it to someone else and they will give it to Dumbldore.
If the vanishing cabinet does work, Mum, I ask you this. Please do not come with Aunt Bella. I fear that along with many of the Order, and Dumbldore, of course, some of our side might die as well.
Mum, I don't want you to die. Please don't come. I wouldn't be able to lose you.
