The wind was cool and smooth, the smell of rain in the air. She stood there waiting, the feeling of impatience curdling in her stomach. Where was he? She thought. The hands on her watch moved slowly as she stood by herself. It seemed as if the night got even quieter, the air stood still.
"Chase?" She called out. Nothing moved, not even the trees in the distance. It had felt as if time had stopped. Her green eyes darted around hastily, her heart beats vibrating down to her fingertips. She took a gulp of the saliva that was building up in her mouth, "Chase, please…Are you there? I am not in the mood for your tricks; I am legitimately going to pee if you scare me." She nervously laughed at her own joke, as she blew her hair from her lips.
There was no sound, no response. She could feel it; she could feel something was not right. Something must have gone wrong. He should be back; he should be here by now. She furiously grabbed the thin cell phone from her pocket. The bright screen beamed against her face in the dark night. He was an hour behind schedule. Her fingertip clicked his name and the phone dialed in her ear.
"Pick up, pick up...please," The automated message that she heard made her eyes swell, "Chase. It's Audrey, your sister. Please call me back. I'm worried. You're not here like you are supposed to be…I'm scared chase…What happened? Please call me soon." She ended the call and slid the phone back into her pocket. Her arms crossed and she sighed under the moon.
Moments later, something above her flashed and caught her eye. Her red hair slid back behind her ears as she looked up. The sky had gone black above her, the stars gone as if they never existed. Quickly there was a streak of bright, white lighting that drew a maze in the clouds. Confused she took a deep breath through her nose and continued to watch the lights play above. Her legs shook beneath her as a clap of thunder rolled through the endless sky. She scrunched her face together as she questioned the mysterious weather change. A tiny, wet droplet fell gently in between her eyes.
Just as the thought to run for cover crossed her mind, a lightning bolt shot down out of the black sky and into her chest. The pain unbearable, she screamed as loud as she could. Another clap of thunder echoed as a different bolt entered her. Tears poured from her eyes, blood dripped from her nose. Rain poured down around her like bullets from the heavens.
She could feel death coming to her, the beat of her heart weakening as the electricity made its way through her body. Her breaths no longer deep, but short and knife like in her chest, she could no longer breath. Another bolt striked her almost lifeless body, her vision tunneled and she hit the ground.
The rain stopped, the clouds scurried away from the scene and the stars peered down at Audrey's limp, wet body. Her eyes were wide, the final tear made its way down her blushed cheek. The slow beats of her heart echoed in her ears, until there no longer was a sound. No longer a tear or a blink. No longer a breath. Just her body lay there as the moonlight shined down on her pale skin. The life drained from her form.
The cool wind picked back up as the birds sang in the trees around her.
Thank you all for reading my teaser chapter. Do not worry my actual chapters will be much longer. It has been quite a while since I wrote any stories, but the urge has gotten the best of me. Please review and give me your thoughts. I looked forward to writing more and reading your thoughts.
