Title: III
Fandom: King Arthur
Character: Lucan
Disclaimer: Sadly, all that's recognizable still belongs to Jerry Bruckheimer & Touchstone Pictures. The rest ? To the hyperactive imagination of a Celt who wishes more than anything that she owned both Dagonet and Tristan ... Although, a share in both Gawain and Bors wouldn't go amiss either !

In my short life I've been rescued three times. Saved by the same person. Three times.
I
The first words he ever uttered to me were, "You must not fear me ..."
Held prisoner in Marius Honorius' dungeons for months, I'd known nothing but fear and pain. And I remember cowering in fear when I first saw him. Impossibly tall and formidable, my cropped-haired, scarred saviour looked daunting. Intimidating. But his kindly silver eyes revealed his true nature, as did his gentle ways. He pulled me out of the darkness into the light. Saved me.
II
I was there when he rescued me the second time.
Since the dungeon, he protected and took care of me. But it's a hard task for a lone man to do when ambushed by others who are lack honour and are far more cowardly. He fought bravely - like a lion - to defend me from Marius and we would've both died, if not for the timely arrival of the other knights. That's when I realized how much he cared for me. That he'd willingly die to protect me.
III
He sent me away the third time he saved me.
I wept and struggled fiercely when he left with the others. And I still remember his smile. Gentle. Tinged with sorrow. And a quiet acceptance that he might not survive.
But return he did, but not in the way that I'd hoped. And I wept at the unfairness of it all. The first person to ever show me kindness was stolen away from me. A person I'd come to dearly love and respect ...

So, now I stand at his graveside, along with his brethren and his kin, wearing his black and silver clan ring. Honouring - no, missing - the one I'd swiftly come to regard as a father. The man who'd willingly sacrificed himself to ensure my safety. A man I could only aspire to be like. My role-model. My hero ...
Dagonet.
