Many men wonder what it is about a white wedding that attracts women so much. There is so much hassle involved (the flowers, the cake, the dress, the table decorations, the invitations, the place settings and so many other details) for a ceremony that lasts less than an hour!
But the truth of the matter is that it's all about The Moment.
That moment, usually as the bride enters, where for once in her life she does not doubt she is beautiful and confident, where she is the centre of everyone's attention and where nothing else matters but the one she loves.
For Donna, The Moment was supposed to be as she walked down the aisle, her father at her side and her wonderful Lance waiting for her.
But then there was glowing and martians, robot santas and explosive baubles, giant spiders and betrayal, fire and water and "You can stop now!"
Much later on there is her second attempt at marriage, but while everything is perfect and she loves Shaun so very much... she feels empty inside, as if something is missing.
So she lives the rest of her life, content but not happy, unable to get rid of that empty feeling. She dies, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in a beautiful big house, having never experienced The Moment as all women should.
Or so she thinks.
Because for Donna, The Moment came when the metacrisis came to life in her head. When she could see the amazing person others saw, and when she could save the ones she loved.
The Most Important Woman in the Universe.
I don't own Doctor Who.
As usual this got away from me, but hopefully it gets the point across.
