Family Business
It had all happened in a split second. They'd been distracted by what had seemed like their near-endless arguments and carping. Now they were surrounded and overrun with demons.
This isn't like the old days, Dean thought. However, they're still a team at heart, no matter how rusty, and they'd soon coordinated their defense.
As more of the demons surged towards them, Dean caught Sam's eye. In that brief, eternal moment he realized that unimportant arguments about what they'd done, or hadn't done, didn't matter.
This is where he belongs; beside his brother, fighting monsters, killing things.
The family business.

Staring out from the Abyss
Sam knew his luck had run out. There were just too many demons, and he wasn't ready to die.
He'd tried to talk to Dean, but when had that ever worked? Time for a practical demonstration.
Sam held up one hand and the power came to his call like an over-eager, but well-trained puppy. He felt it surge through him and into the demons. They screamed as they were ripped from their unwilling hosts, the black smoke roiling as it was dispersed.
Sam gave a sad smile in response to Dean's horrified expression.
He knew his eyes were deepest black.

Fade from Black
Dean threw himself down by his brother's side, where Sam had collapsed as if he'd been poleaxed.
Sam groaned as his eyes flickered open. Dean watched the black fade to reveal Sam's normal hazel color.
"You're back on the blood?" Dean's voice sounded tight.
"No, it just happens when I get angry."
Dean seemed lost in his own thoughts while he helped Sam up into a sitting position.
"So now you're the Hulk?" Dean teased.
Sam felt a surge of affection for his brother.
"I guess that explains your freaky size," Dean added.
Sam scowled. "Don't make me angry, dude."
