Heaven's Own Insanity
A/N I wrote this for a post I saw on Tumblr. This may be utter crap, but I took it and ran with it. What am I doing with myself?
It was Alfie who first witnessed Samandriel's fits. And it would be, wouldn't it? They were always together, after all. They weren't twins, (Samandriel was three years Alfie's senior) but they were practically identical, aside from the slight height difference. Samandriel was in his room studying for a test. Alfie was cooking. Their parents were out that night. Alfie enjoyed cooking anyhow. Samandriel often joked that Alfie was "the gay one" when introducing him to new people. Now dinner was ready.
"Samandriel, dinner!" Alfie called up the stairs. No reply. "Samandriel!" Alfie called again. Alfie shook his head. Samandriel often listened to music while studying, and probably couldn't hear him. Alfie hiked up the stairs. He heard music playing softly in Samandriel's room. Don't arrange to have me sent to no asylum. I'm just as sane as anyone. It's just a game I play for fun – for fun. "Samandriel?" Alfie called again. He poked his head around the doorframe. "Samandriel?" Samandriel was sitting on his bed, muttering words.
"Et non sociopath interficere quemquam," Samandriel muttered.
"What?" Alfie asked, entering the room.
"Quae est horrendis, sed innocentes," Samandriel continued, getting louder. Alfie snapped his fingers in font of Samandriel's face.
"Samandriel," Alfie said again, "Snap out of it! Come on!"
"Nam nulla elit nutrix occidit," Samandriel grew louder now, "NULLUMQUE!" he shouted. Samandriel fell over on his back. Alfie stepped back.
"Samandriel?" Alfie inquired cautiously. Samandriel bolted up again.
"WHAT'D I MISS?" Samandriel shouted, seeing Alfie. Alfie breathed out softly.
"You- you must have fallen asleep," Alfie lied, "Dinner's ready." Alfie didn't speak of this to anyone. But he didn't forget it.
The others found out about two weeks later. Alfie was in school. Third period English with Ms. Moser. The intercom came on in class,
"Ms. Moser, do you have Alfred Deya in your class?"
"I do."
"Could you please send him to the front office. He's going home." Alfie didn't know what had happened, not really. But he suspected. Had a strange feeling that he DID know. When he arrived, his fears were confirmed. Samandriel had had another fit. Alfie's parents made an appointment with a psychiatrist right away. Through the appointment Alfie was praying. Praying that Samandriel wouldn't have to leave. That they wouldn't institutionalize him. That's why Alfie hadn't told anyone in the first place. They couldn't take his brother away. But they did anyway. Allfornothingallfornothingallfornothing.
It will just be until they can find the right medication. We don't want him to hurt himself or anyone else.
Right. Alfie heard himself say.
You'll be okay, right Alfie? This is just what's best for Samandriel right now.
Of course I'll be okay. Alfie said. After that all words lost meaning. Alfie was to be kept under close observation, just in case he started showing signs. Alfie knew he wouldn't. It was just Samandriel, stuck in that ward with all those insane people. Well, by definition Samandriel was insane too, but not really. He wasn't a real insane person. Notinsanenotsinsanenotsinsane. Never insane. Not Samandriel.
I hope you liked that
Oh, and by the way, here's a link to the inspiration
