Happy birthday, When you notice the Stripes.

Just a drabble for Lily&James :)

Lily knew. She wasn't stupid. Yes, she was in denial. And there was that practical part of her telling her that no one like James could ever fancy her. She wasn't special – didn't have the looks, money, and hell, she was just a dirty little mudblood. He probably just enjoyed getting her riled up and laughing about it afterwards with his friends.

There was a bit of her that wished it wasn't a prank. If he really did fancy her, she would have had no problems saying yes. But he was joking… right? He always seemed so sincere when he leapt around the common room, declaring his undying love for her. She might have snapped at him for it, but in the most utterly disgusting way… it was kind of cute.

Lies, lies, lies! She chanted to herself. There was no point in getting caught up with some fantasy lo – crush. No matter how badly she wanted to believe him, there was just no way that she would let herself do that. After all, no girl wants to set herself up for heartbreak.

Maybe though. Maybe one day she'd give in. Just for kicks, of course. There wasn't much point in getting too excited about things, was there?

Unless it wasn't a joke. Then there was definitely something to get excited about.
