Beauty and the Beast
By: Darke Whispers
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, or the song Beauty and the Beast. JKR has HP covered, and Disney owns the song for anyone who didn't know.
Authors Note: I got this amazing Beauty and the Beast CD a few days ago at a thrift store, and I was listeneing to the song, and I realized that the Lily/James romance had the same plot. So here is my second songfic and first L/J one. R&R
Tale as old as time
True as it can be
Barely even friends
Then somebody bends
Unexpectedly
Lily stared after the boy she had just rejected and realized something. She kind of liked him. No, it was more than that. She had butterflies in her stomach. She couldn't stop staring. She told herself a few butterflies was not something to base a fancy on. They weren't even friends.
Just a little change
Small to say the least
Both a little scared
Neither one prepared
Beauty and the Beast
She began talking to him, flirting to the best of her abilities. Lily was sure James noticed too. The first time she smiled at one of his jokes, she couldn't tell if he angry or happy. He looked a little... scared. At least caught off guard. Lily knew what that felt like. She had to clue what to do. He hadn't asked her out all year, and there was no way Lily could tell him...
Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise
Lily was sure she hadn't changed. No, she was still the studious, redheaded Head Girl she was at the beginning of the year. Did James change then? He still played pranks, his ego was still the size of Petunia's boyfriend, Vernon. So everything was the same? Lily couldn't believe it. Then, she knew. She knew for sure that she fancied James Charles Potter. A lot.
Tale as old as time
Tune as old as song
Bittersweet and strange
Finding you can change
Learning you were wrong
She felt so confused. She was supposed to hate him. She had turned him down so much. Wouldn't saying yes just be pathetically giving in? But he was so... different. James Potter, different? Vile, sure. Evil, sure. Arrogant, immature, egotistical, sure. But different? Something had to have changed. She couldn't just randomly notice a guy she's hated for years. What changed though? Suddenly, it clicked. The feeling changed. Lily changed. She realized he was kind, and he was thoughtful, and he might be mature on the rare occasion. She couldn't believe it. Lily Jane Evans was wrong.
Certain as the sun
Rising in the east

Her friends always told her they would end up together. Sirius made a point of telling her everyday at breakfast. Marlene always said they "balanced each other out", whatever that meant. Lily should've known this was inevitable. That day during patrols, Lily told him. "James?" she whispered. He murmured a quick "Mmhmm," Lily sighed. "Remember in first year when you said you maybe, sort of, might, a little, kind of, more than like me?" James nodded. "I maybe, sort of, might, a little, kind of, more than like you too." she smiled. James grin finalized the fact. Lily loved James. "Go out with me?" he asked, and for the first time in seven years, Lily said yes.
