Do you know, dear Princess

Why we sleep at night?

Why the ponies shut themselves inside

Locked up all snug and tight?

Some say you went mad.

Driven utterly insane.

You thought we had shunned you.

Your night; your precious reign.

No, dear Princess

As I may be bold to say

It was not the darkness of the night

That kept driving us away.

We ponies sleep at night

Not to hide from the gloom

But to venture far outside.

In our minds, we see the moon.

Our eyes are filled with wonder

At your beautiful night sky.

And though you cannot see us

Do not wonder why.

"Why is nopony out

During my pretty night?"

We are, we are

Drinking in the sight.

For every night, we ponies sleep

To awaken to the day.

But our minds, forever in bed

Wait for night to play.

We see the night, the starry sky

Lit with glorious lights.

The moon, the stars,

Out on our nightly flights.

Through the sky, in the clouds

Our spirits prance and play

Until dragged to our fleshy bodies

To work another day.

We sleep at night, dear Princess

Because we feel safe and sound.

Your nighttime is our souls' lullaby

We wait the whole day 'round.

Sleep is a portal to higher living

Our souls can only see.

Dreams are not just imagination.

They are what in sleep we see.

And when the night is dark and deep

When nopony seems alive

Remember in our hearts we keep

That wonder still alive.
