Hello everyone, so instead of going straight into the Mortal Kombat tournament, I thought I would do some one shots for the characters leading into the first official story of my Mortal Kombat Universe. I'm kicking things off with Liu Kang of course. Now I know some of you may not like my version of the character but just because he dones't act the way he does in the games doesn't mean he won't grow into the character we love playing as. I will say if anyone decides to leave any nasty or hateful reviews I will block you and report you.
Enjoy.
Chapter 1: Liu Kang
Liu Kang never knew his parents growing up. He was orphaned as a young child and taken in by the Order of Light's Shaolin Temple. A large temple that was hidden in the mountains of Honan Province somewhere in China. During his time at the temple he made friends with a fellow Shaolin monk by the name of Kung Lao. The two boys were inseparable, always training or sparing together. He was trained in the teachings of The Great Kung Lao, and because of his talent to master the martial arts in a fast pace it caught the eye and attention of Lord Raiden. The Thunder God saw something in him so he took the young Liu to Outworld where he met and was trained by Master Bo' Rai Cho.
Growing up, Liu Kang was very respectable to his mentors and trainers but as he grew into his teenage and young adult years is when attitude towards his training started to change. He became rather cocky. Having a high aptitude in the martial arts, he started to become arrogant and elitist towards his training and even towards his mentors. In fact he frequently made it a habit to sneak out of the temple and head into the city -which was forbidden. On this night he was able to convince Kung Lao to sneak out with him.
"This is great isn't it?" Liu Kang asked his friend as they walked down the side of the street to a club that Liu would go to whenever he would sneak into the city.
"Personally I think this is crazy and that we should head back into the Temple before the Masters find out our beds are empty" Kung Lao stated firmly getting really uneasy knowing they were breaking the rules.
Liu rolled his eyes at his friend's response.
"You worry too much Lao. I promise we'll be back in time before the Masters even notice we're…" he started to say when he noticed a woman crossing the street to his right. He was at a lost for words at the beauty of the woman. He was broken out of his trance by Kung Lao who grabbed his shoulder.
"What?" he asked confused.
"I know that look and usually means you're about to do something stupid" Lao replied with a concerned look on his face.
Liu Kang didn't respond as he watched the woman who looked his way and sent him a wink before turning making her way towards the club the two men were going to. A smile crossed Liu's face as he grabbed Lao's arm and pulled him along as they made their way towards the club.
"I swear your cockiness is going to be the death of me one day" Kung Lao muttered under his breath.
(!)
Liu Kang and Kung Lao entered the club. Liu combed over the crowd hoping to find the mysterious woman he had seen on his way to the club. Kung Lao was standing next to him wincing at the loud music that the club was playing too loudly. Eventually Liu got a glimpse of the woman so he made his way towards her leaving Kung Lao standing there.
When he came to small gap in the dance floor, he realized that he had lost her again. He looked around the room trying to find the mystery woman again. When suddenly he felt someone's hand graze his arm making his head turn to see her walking around him, stopping to face him. He started to say something but stopped when she places one of her fingers over his lips. She grabs his wrist and drags him through to the other side of the dance floor towards the back exit.
Liu didn't stop her when she pushed open the door and walked outside pulling him with her. The moment they stepped outside is when Liu got to see what the woman looked like. The woman was of Asian descent and was wearing a dark blue dress and her dark hair was tied up into a ponytail. She pushed Liu up against the wall of the club and leaned towards him.
"You are far away from Temple Shaolin" she said.
She stepped back and pulled out a blue fan from her back and swung at his head.
Liu quickly ducked and rolled out of the way. He got back to his feet and got into a fighting stance but before anything could happen a loud crack of thunder could be heard over them. The noise made Liu look up and when he looked in the direction of the woman, she was gone. The back door to the club came flying open and Kung Lao came running out. Kung Lao grabbed Liu Kang's shoulder.
"We should get out of here before…."
"LIU KANG…. KUNG LAO!"
The two Shaolin's bodies tensed and eyes widen at the sound of the familiar voice. They both turned to see Lord Raiden standing before them.
"Lord Raiden, we were just…" Kung Lao started to say only to stop when Raiden held up his hand silencing the Shaolin monk.
"I am disappointed in both of you." Raiden said very sternly then walked over and held his arm in the air teleporting all three of them back to the Shoalin Temple.
(!)
Liu Kang and Kung Lao sat on the floor in the main chamber of the Shaolin Tenple awaiting to hear if their punishment for sneaking out.
The door to the chamber opened and Raiden walked in with an unreadable face.
"Is there anything the two of you wish to say before we begin?" Raiden asked them.
Kung Lao opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by Liu Kang.
"It's my fault Lord Raiden, I made Kung Lao sneak out of the temple with me...I thought after all the training and hard work we have done, well, I thought we deserved to have some fun" Liu Kang said.
Kung Lao looked at Liu Kang in confusion.
"So please Lord Raiden do not punish Kung Lao for I take full responsibility and will take the punishment for the both of us" Liu Kang said.
"Very well, Liu Kang, because of your actions myself and the elder Monks have decided that you would no longer represent the Shaolin Temple in the Mortal Kombat tournament" Raiden said to the shock of both Shaolin Warriors. The Thunder God then turned his attention solely to Kung Lao. "Kung Lao you will represent Earthrealm in the Mortal Kombat tournament" Raiden said.
Kung Lao quickly got to his feet and bowed before walking out of the room leaving Liu Kang with Raiden.
"Do you think that was a reasonable punishment Liu Kang?" Raiden asked as he turned his head to look at the young Shaolin.
"Yes Lord Raiden" Liu Kang replied dejectedly.
